Rocky City Regatta Success
On Saturday our small but talented rowing team participated in the Rocky City Rowing Regatta. The girls had a fabulous day out on the water even if it was a little chilly at six degrees for the 6.00am start to the day. By 8.00am, the weather had warmed up and it was a beautiful day with glassy water and not a breath of wind, which makes for perfect rowing conditions.
The team participated in 13 races for the day and finished in the top three places for 12 of these events, so it was a very successful day indeed.
Results:
Calli placed 3rd in the Open boy’s division 3 single skull
Mackenzie placed 2nd with her combined schools RGGS/EMC team in the Year 7 boys quad skull
Chloe, Ella, Olivia and Ellexis came 2nd in the quad skull
Mackenzie and Dale in their combined schools team placed 3rd in the same quad skull race and were coxed by Calli
Calli placed 2nd in the Open Girls division 1 single skull
Ellexis placed 1st and Olivia placed 2nd in the novice girl’s single skull

Each year we select our top 10 netball players to represent Girls Grammar at the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Netball Tournament or QISSN. This team will travel to Mackay from 26 June to 1 July to compete against the best school teams from all over the state.
The 2022 Girls Grammar team:

Arkadie Dwyer
Bria Goldman
Ally Green
Andie Lang
Dale Lewis
Camryn McPherson
Matilda Peff
Georgia Priddle

Coach: Laura Bass

The girls have been working exceptionally hard to get ready to go away and they have displayed an exceptional level of commitment to this prestigious team.
The girls have been playing Monday nights in the Rockhampton Netball competition in the Senior B ladies division. They have been training Tuesday mornings from 6.45am - 7.45am, attending Strength and Conditioning training Thursday mornings from 6.30am and also training from 2.10pm - 4.00pm every Thursday. The majority of these girls also volunteer their time to umpire for the Girls Grammar Netball Club in fixture games each week.
Through their level of effort, support and leadership, Arkadie Dwyer was voted team Captain and Andie Lang was voted team Vice Captain by their fellow teammates.
Lastly, I just wanted to say that it is an expensive endeavour to attend a carnival like this and we would sincerely like to thank the P&F association for their valued support. Without them, putting the best team on the court wouldn’t be possible. We also need to thank the parents that have made sure the girls get to all of their events, assisting with fundraising activities, and helped out on fixture nights with scoring and washing bibs. We really appreciate your assistance every week.
On behalf of the whole Girls Grammar community, we would like to wish the team all the best for their tournament.
