Embracing Wellbeing: A Warm Welcome from New Girls Grammar School Counsellor, Claire Jarrett!

Hello to the RGGS community!

My name is Claire Jarrett and I have been lucky enough to be given the role as the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School Counsellor. I very much look forward to working with the girls and the school to create an environment that promotes positive social emotional wellbeing and learning.

A little bit about myself. I started my teaching career in Brisbane, where I grew up, but after two years jumped at the opportunity to move out to Emerald and do my country service. I spent five years teaching and living in Emerald, which was a challenge, but I absolutely loved it. Whilst there I developed a passion for student’s social emotional and mental wellbeing. Being a teacher really opened my eyes to how important it is for students to feel safe, supported, and happy in order to develop, grow and learn. I completed my Masters in Education specialising in Guidance and Counselling externally through University of Southern Queensland.

I moved across to Emu Park at the start of 2022 and my husband and I had our baby girl at the beginning of 2023, so I had a year off being a mum.

I am so excited to become a part of the community here at Rockhampton Girls Grammar school and look forward to meeting all the girls and their families. Feel free to contact me if you think I can support your daughter in any way, or if you see me around the school, come say hi!
