🌿🔬 Exploring the world of Green STEM! 🔬🌿

During the first week of the school holidays, year 9 student Allie, was one of just 44 girls from 20 schools across Queensland selected to attend the Girls STEM-tacular Camp at the Boyne Island Environmental Education Centre.

The immersive camp focused on Green STEM, demonstrating how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics can be used to solve environmental challenges. Through hands-on activities, team-building challenges, outdoor education experiences and career exploration, Allie gained valuable insight into the role STEM plays in everyday life and the future of environmental conservation.

A highlight of the camp was learning from marine biologist Dr Megan Ellis from Gladstone Ports Corporation, whose research on sharks and turtles showcased the important role STEM plays in protecting marine ecosystems. Allie also enjoyed astronomy activities, which brought together all four STEM disciplines and highlighted how they work together to help us better understand the universe.

The experience gave Allie a deeper appreciation of Green STEM and the many career pathways it offers. Along the way, she made new friends, met inspiring professionals and discovered exciting opportunities for the future.
