Getting to know the Girls Grammar School community - Meet our new Indigenous Liaison Officer

Updated: Feb 24, 2023

Rockhampton Girls Grammar's new Indigenous Liaison Officer Shania Conlon.

This year Rockhampton Girls Grammar School welcomed Shania Conlon as the School's new Indigenous Liaison Officer.

The girls who board would already be familiar with Shania as she was a Boarding Supervisor before she took on her new role.

Shania is a proud Wakka Wakka woman.

"I have had the privilege of growing up on the beautiful Darumbal country of the Rockhampton region," said Shania.

She first started her employment with Rockhampton Girls Grammar School in Term 2 of 2022 as a Boarding Supervisor.

"During this time, I have enjoyed getting to know the students and learning all about the school’s values and ethics.

"My goal within the role is to assist our First Nations students to become clever, confident and connected, young women who are proud to be a part of the Girls Grammar community," she said.

Shania will play a major role in the leadership of learning and support for our Girls Grammar Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

Shania will help promote a positive and strong sense of identity, belonging, and self-belief and to empower all students to reach their potential.

Rockhampton Girls Grammar School holds strong values in respecting and honouring our students’ cultural heritage - so Shania will help the School to continue to embed these values across the School community.
