Gold Coast Titans All Schools Touch Carnival
It was a long, tough preparation throughout Term 3 with early morning strength and conditioning sessions, running fitness sessions, team trainings, and late night games in the RTA ladies competition for the 2023 All Schools Touch Team.
After all the hard work was done, the team headed off to the Gold Coast on Thursday 5 October to compete against the best school teams in the state. Bus Karaoke was in full swing on the nine hour trip down as the excitement built.
Friday’s games saw the girls have a successful day winning against Noosa District and drawing with Mueller College. The girls put in a really great game in the last of the day, but unfortunately went down to Palm Beach Currumbin (PBC). PBC would go on to be top of the pool and win all their round games convincingly. No touch carnival would be complete without a recovery session alternating between the cold pool and warm spa, before a few trips down the pool slide to finish.
With some heavy legs on Saturday, we started slow coming away with a draw against Lindisfarne Anglican College and a loss to Cannon Hill Anglican College. We picked ourselves up and put together a strong performance in our last game only to go down to our pools 2nd top team, Lourdes Hill College.
We finished our trip away with a lovely team dinner before the long trip back to Rockhampton on Sunday.
With great leadership by our experienced players, our young girls really stood up in the Opens division and I can’t wait to see how they continue to develop their touch skills in the years to come.
In her first All Schools as the team referee, Grace did an amazing job refereeing eight games across the 15 years girls, Open Girls and Open Mixed divisions. She probably worked harder than anyone else and always did it with a smile on her face.
Bring on 2024!
QLD Schools Championship Regatta
Over the holidays Calli, Georgia, Ellexis, Ella, and Kirsten represented Girls Grammar Rowing at the QLD Schools Championships Regatta at Bucca outside of Bundaberg.
This regatta sees all the best school rowers from across the state represented. Our girls have done a fabulous job and all their hard work throughout the year is paying off.
The five girls teamed up for the Year 11 Quad where they placed 6th. Kirsten and Ella teamed up for their first doubles pairing and did a great job placing 7th.
Calli and Georgia teamed up for a few events where they placed 4th in the Year 11 double skull and first in the Year 11 Pair, earning a gold medal. Both girls were also members of the Capricornia Open Girls Quad team earning a silver medal. Calli also placed 3rd receiving a bronze medal in the Year 11 single skull.
If you are interested in joining the Girls Grammar Rowing program in 2024, we will be holding a Learn to Row program early in Term 1. Please email Mrs Doherty at sport@rggs.qld.edu.au to register your interest.
