Club Netball News
Regular fixtures in the club netball season came to an end last week and the Girls Grammar Netball Club did exceptionally well.
Our small but talented club grew to 10 teams this year and with only one round to go, we had five teams in contention for a finals berth. Unfortunately, Comets and Starburst didn’t get results to go their way and finished the season in 5th place. Galaxy, Eclipse, and Saturn all made their way through to the semi finals.
All three teams have moved up a division this year and have thrived in the harder grades, with Galaxy finishing the regular season in 1st place in the Senior A Res 2 division and Saturn in 2nd in Junior B2. As a result of their top two placings, both teams played the top semi final, giving them two chances to make the grand final. Eclipse placed 4th at the end of regular fixtures in the Junior A2 division and played in the must win elimination semi.
The semi final matches on Monday and Tuesday did not disappoint:
Galaxy absolutely smashed the 2nd placed Frenchville 57-29 and are now straight through to the grand final.
Eclipse had an amazing start to their game and were leading by 3 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Brothers came out fast and hard in the 4th quarter to take out the game by 3 goals, ending Eclipse’s season.
Saturn had a slow start with runaways getting out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter, but our girls came home strong winning the 3rd and 4th quarters. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time to peg back the lead and they went down in a close 28-32 loss.
We wish Saturn all the best in their preliminary final on Monday and hope to have a big crowd out there to support the girls. Monday’s game is 6.30pm on Court 5 against Frenchville Otters.
The grand finals will be played on Sunday 3 September. Good Luck Galaxy and we hope Saturn can join you with a grand final appearance.
The club netball break-up and presentation evening will occur in the last week of term on Tuesday 12 September from 5.30pm - 8.30pm. Make sure you put this date in your diary because we would love to see all players there.
Lastly, we will be hosting an online umpiring course on Thursday 14 September from 3.30pm in Luck 3. Anyone that would like to complete their umpire’s course to be able to officiate RNA games, please email ClubNetball@rggs.qld.edu.au to register your interest.
