The 2023 academic year started with a bang at Girls Grammar, as families, students, and staff gathered for our Welcome BBQ on Monday January 23 - the first since 2020.

I was thrilled to see so many members of our school community come together as students, staff, and families re-connected and formed new connections with those new to our school community in 2023.

The sense of excitement for the year ahead was strongly felt with overwhelmingly positive feedback from staff and parents truly reinforcing our unique culture of community and connections.

Our Welcome BBQ set the tone for the year ahead, with our first big event only four weeks away.

Last night I shared the sad news that after 20 years of dedicated volunteering to raising funds for our school, the Girls Grammar (Rockhampton) Race Day Committee has decided that “all good things must come to an end”.

Since its inception in 2002, borne out of hardship and uncertain times for

our School, the Girls Grammar Race Day has become a premier showcase for the School and social event on the race day calendar.

A sincere thank you and appreciation to Chairperson, Vicki Jackson OAM and her Committee who have given so much of their time, talent, and passion to raise approximately $720,000 over the past 20 years for our School.

I am committed to maintaining this proud tradition that has become such a strong part of our School, and I thank those members of our community who have already put their hand up to help ensure this event takes place as calendared on Saturday, June 17.

I strongly believe that although a lot of effort will be required, our culture of community will entrust that the tradition of Girls Grammar Race Day will continue. If you are interested in being involved in this committee please contact me on Principal@rggs.qld.edu.au

I look forward to a fantastic year ahead and am so grateful for the support, positivity and sense of community we have established here at Girls Grammar.
