All Schools Touch Football

The Gold Coast Titans Queensland All Schools Touch Carnival is the largest touch carnival in the world. This year there were over 450 teams representing various schools both nationally and internationally, needing 30 fields and playing from 7.30am – 9.00pm each day to accommodate all the games. This equates to over 6000 players. It is quite a sight to see the number of teams, tents, and people there each day. The girls were quite nervous driving into the venue for the first time and seeing how big it was.

Our Girls Grammar team was in the Open Girls division where there were eight pools of eight teams. The top two teams in each pool progresses to finals in the hope of being overall carnival champions. We won two games and drew one out of our seven rounds. After a nervous start we played some of the best touch we had to offer and I was so proud of our effort and teamwork, almost bringing me to tears on a few occasions. We had seven girls making their All Schools debut this year and I couldn’t have been prouder of the way our young team stood up in the tough games.

The toughest parts of our carnival were the late 9.00pm finish on Friday night and a short turn around to play the early games on Saturday at 8.00am, as well as the road works and crawling traffic from Brisbane to Gold Coast, which added an extra hour and a half to our trip.

The highlights of the trip were our win against Chancellor College who are one of the best touch schools in Queensland, and of course our trip to Harbour Town shopping outlet.

We would really like to thank Wendi Lindsay for going away and refereeing on behalf of the team. We would also like to thank Mrs Doherty and Mr Borg for driving us down, for their organisation, and most importantly, their coaching skills. We really appreciate all the time and effort throughout the three month preparation.
