At Rockhampton Girls Grammar, we are proud to celebrate the artistic talents of our students, with one recent design standing out for its deep personal meaning and connection to the heart of the school community. Phoenix Nuggins, a talented senior, designed the artwork featured on the Year 12 Jersey and Student Planner, a design that symbolises not only her own journey but also the journey of every student at Girls Grammar.
Senior Jersey Design Meaning
This design represents my journey at Rockhampton Girls Grammar. I left my family in community not knowing what to expect in my first year at boarding school.
It was hard to adjust living away from my family; this was the first time I lived away from home, and it was an eye opener and a challenge.
Overtime however I made friends with the other students who came from different communities, and they too left their families and had to adjust to life at Rockhampton Girls Grammar.
Today I see my fellow students as my family away from home and my teachers as not only educators but as mentors too who help all the students to strive to be a better version of themselves with the support, they provide us.
This design represents our connections, our communities and our school which is why I used the school colours.
The four outer circles represent our different communities just like a compass: North, South, East and West.
The circle in the middle represents our school; it's a meeting place where we all came together to learn and grow as individuals, and it also represents us as being one; a family.
Our growth is represented by the inner circles and the pink arches on the outside represents our teachers and school leaders, it also represents protection as we as a community look after each other and help one another.
The lines coming to the centre represents our journey from our homes, our communities and the dots represent the people in our communities, our families and friends.
The straight lines represent the students who travel overland, and the wavy lines presents the students who travel over water, these lines are connected to the centre and shows how our school has built a relationship with our communities through its students.
The smaller design with the line and arch beside it, is a symbol the represents a woman. I included this symbol as it represents our school being an all-girls school.
- Phoenix Nuggins
Phoenix’s design is more than just artwork; it is a visual representation of her personal growth and the strength of the Girls Grammar community. Her artwork reminds us of the journey we all take as students—both from our homes to school, and from our pasts to our futures—and the importance of community and connection along the way.
As Phoenix prepares to graduate, this design will forever be a part of her legacy at Rockhampton Girls Grammar, a lasting tribute to the relationships, growth, and strength she experienced during her time at the school. We are proud to celebrate Phoenix Nuggins, a remarkable young woman whose art beautifully represents the heart and soul of our school.
