2025 Athletics – A Celebration of Spirit, Speed, and Sunshine!

What a sensational couple of days it’s been for our 2025 Interhouse Athletics Carnivals!

Thursday 5 June kicked off a little on the chilly side, but that didn’t stop the energy from soaring as the sun soon made its grand appearance, blessing us with the perfect weather for a thrilling day of competition. From Year 4 to Year 12, students gathered at CQ University oval, bursting with house pride and ready to give it their all.

The atmosphere was electric from the get-go! Cheers rang out across the venue as students raced, jumped, and threw with passion and determination. Each house brought their A-game, and the competition was fierce, with everyone striving to outdo their personal bests while encouraging their teammates every step of the way. The spirit of sportsmanship was nothing short of inspiring - high fives, cheers, and words of encouragement were just as common as the races themselves.

Whether it was the 100m sprint, discus, or the high jump, the talent and enthusiasm on display were truly something to behold. The crowd roared with support, and you could feel the unity and excitement building with every event. It was more than just a day of athletics - it was a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and community spirit.

The highlight of the day is always the Polywonga Gift. This handicap race includes the fastest 100m runner in each age group from 10 Years to Opens. The excitement was again intense with a photo finish needed to determine places. Congratulations to Jalime Wosomo for taking out the Gift in 2025, with Suan Asai 2nd and Zoey Walker 3rd.

Just when we thought the excitement had peaked, the fun continued in the last week of school with the Prep - Year 3 carnival!

Our Prep to Year 3 students had their chance to shine on Friday 20 June, after their original Athletics Day was postponed due to weather. Held on the school oval, it was impossible not to smile as the youngest members of our school community poured their hearts into every activity. From sprints to novelty activities, the joy was infectious. You could hear their giggles and cheers echoing across the school grounds.

These future track stars showed incredible enthusiasm, cheering each other on with boundless energy and taking part with joy. It wasn’t just about who came first - it was about having fun, trying their best, and celebrating being part of a great day. The smiles on their faces said it all.

A huge congratulations to all our students for making both Athletics Days unforgettable. Your energy, effort, and enthusiasm made these events such a success. And of course, a massive thank you to all staff, volunteers, and supporters who helped make it all possible.

There were some great individual achievements recorded; congratulations to the following students on setting new records.

  • Olivia Atkinson - 11 Years 800m

  • Indee Schwarz - 11 Years Discus

  • Williams - 10 Years Relay
