A Word from our Principal

After more than three years of discussion and anticipation, it gives me great pleasure to announce the commencement of our Undercover Multipurpose Court. Originally planned for construction on the school’s existing tennis courts, then a relocation to the oval, it’s third and final confirmed location will see our court constructed adjacent to our refurbished pool and changeroom facilities. Providing visibility and parking accessibility from Agnes and Smith Street while making use of the natural sloping landscape, this location will mark the beginnings of a ‘sporting precinct’ easily accessible by our boarders in Kollar and Jackson House along with visitors to Rockhampton Girls Grammar School.

The tender process was well received with very strong interest, and we wish to thank and acknowledge those who provided quotes for the project. Congratulations to BT Builders who were the successful contractors to undertake this Capital Project.. Thank you to Russell Girle, architect with Thomson Adsett for his unwavering commitment to the long-awaited Undercover Multipurpose Court project.

We have already received interest from sporting teams wishing to utilise this first-class facility. Purpose built as a competition grade netball court along with volleyball, basketball, and badminton, our students will be given the opportunity to train and play on one of the best surfaces in CQ. Thanks, must also go to the State Government in recognition of the funds they have contributed to the Undercover Multipurpose Court project under the State Capital Assistance Scheme.

As outlined in our Strategic Directions, honouring our Heritage, whilst embracing the future is one of our school’s four Focus Areas. Throughout Semester 2, evidence of this integral aspect of our school’s priorities will be actioned across two different projects also detailed within our Master Plan;

  1. Completion of Paterson House roof restoration proudly displaying our shining red roof once again, along with the commencement of stage 1 of Upper Paterson’s refurbishment;

  2. Commencement of Undercover Multipurpose Court complete with competition grade netball playing specifications and surface;

I look forward to sharing the progress of these developments and updating our community on the status of these two projects throughout the remainder of 2022.

It certainly is an exciting time here for all of us at Girls Grammar!
