There have been many events and student achievements for our school to celebrate over the past week. It seems that as we approach the end of each term, the number of activities and cocurricular involvement of our girls increase.
In last week’s newsletter I recognised the efforts of our Show Team. The timing of the cold snap with early morning wake ups didn’t affect your performance, pride, effort and attitude as you represented Girls Grammar across last week. A huge congratulations on being crowned winners of the Stud and Commercial Cattle Interschool Challenge, this is a great achievement and one that was well deserved. Thank you to the parents and families who came out to the Rockhampton Agricultural Show to support the girls and to Mr and Mrs McBride for your leadership and guidance with the girls and the animals.
Last Friday’s Primary Social – Let’s Glow Crazy was a huge success. The chilly weather didn’t deter the turnout and made for a lot of dancing inside McKeague Hall to warm up. The costumes looked great and it was wonderful to see so many parents in attendance and joining in with the fun too. As always, these events aren’t possible without the many staff who volunteer their time, so thank you for making it such a great night (I think we had as much fun as all the girls).
Our Year 12s looked stunning at their Formal last Saturday. It was a special day for the girls, their guests, families and friends as they travelled down the service road in an array of vehicles to arrive and walk the red carpet through Maud Bendall Centenary Arts Building (CAB). The formal dinner held in the upper function level of Headricks Lane was an elegant evening with an acoustic music due, fairy lights and dancing enjoyed by all.
This week we have been treated to an array of musical and artistic performances with our instrumental music progress concert on Monday evening, Shake and Stir Theatre Company performance and masterclass with secondary students. Our students are extremely privileged to be provided the opportunity to participate in a Creative Contemporary Workshop this afternoon led by the Sydney Dance Company. This is to complement their Impermanence tour, being performed in Rockhampton on 25 June at the Pilbeam Theatre.
Tickets are selling fast for Shrek the Musical. I strongly encourage you all to get in quick to purchase tickets for yourself, friends and family for one of the four shows as the 22, 23 and 24 July will be soon upon us when we return to school for Term 3. Listen out for our Shrek Radio Announcement that will be playing from next week!
Congratulation to the girls (and Mrs Doherty) for braving the icy morning start last Saturday at the Rocky City Regatta. The girls must have warmed up well as they all achieved amazing results, smashing not just the girls in their events but in some of the boys’ races as well. Great job girls and well done to those of you who have set your sights on National Titles later this year.
Good luck to our 8C netball team playing in the interschool netball semi-finals this afternoon at Jardine Park. We will be cheering you on to help you reach the Grand Final scheduled for tomorrow, Friday 17 June.
Well done to our Primary Girls Grammar representatives at this week’s District Athletics Carnival. You represented our school so well and did yourselves proud in your involvement on both days. To hear that almost every one of our competitors achieved a placing in their events was simply icing on the cake. Great work girls and thank you to teachers and parents who were able to go along to support our girls, makes it even more of a successful community event.
I know our girls from Prep through to Year 12 are looking forward to participating as a whole school at next Tuesday’s Girls Grammar Athletics Carnival. Thank you to Greta Doherty our Director of Sport for all her planning in preparing for this annual event, as well as running a number of pre-carnival events in the lead up to next week. Whole school events like athletics carnivals are one of the most enjoyable parts about working in a school and I look forward to seeing families who are able to come and support their daughters at CQU oval next Tuesday 21 June.
This weekend we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Girls Grammar Rockhampton Race Day. Thank you to staff, student and parent volunteers and to the Race Day Committee led by Mrs Vicki Jackson who has been involved in the planning and running of this wonderful community event since its inception in 2002. I look forward to catching up with parents, Old Girls, past staff, families and friends of Girls Grammar this Saturday 18 June at what is the highlight of the Rockhampton racing carnival calendar.
