A Word from our Principal - Reminders, Updates, Strategic and Master Plans

The Girls Grammar spirit was well and truly alive (and loud) at last Friday’s 10 years-Open swimming carnival. As I wrote in my messages to staff on Monday, it is days like these that reinforce why I chose the career path I did and LOVE this School. I would like to congratulate and thank parents, staff and students for adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines that were in place for this special event. Whilst some traditions such as huddle war cries were not able to be performed, our school culture and inter-house pride were still evident.

Whilst on the topic of COVID-19:

  • Correspondence regarding COVID-19 cases within the school community can be found under the COVID-19 tab - Correspondence on our School website.

  • Any future correspondence will be communicated via the COVID-19 correspondence tab on our website https://www.rggs.qld.edu.au/covid19correspondence.

  • Whilst I understand that families would like details such as the year levels affected students are in, we have a legislated obligation to keep details of confirmed cases confidential. As we are a small school, providing such details as the year level will increase the chance of confidentiality being broken.

  • It is not a requirement for schools to notify Queensland Health of a confirmed case of COVID-19. It is the individual’s (or parent’s) responsibility to record their positive result on the Qld Health website. On doing so, you receive information on what to do next.

  • We have received notification that the mandate on face masks will be lifted from 6.00pm on Friday 4 March. To date, any updates on the Back to School Plan that is in effect until this same date haven’t been shared by the Queensland Government.

Uniform Shop visits are currently still by appointment only. As we continue to receive stock in to the shop, please adhere to these guidelines as we wish to ensure we continue to have limited numbers of visitors at the one time. This also allows for a more personalised service when trying on and purchasing uniform items.

We welcome communication with parents and understand there are times when parents would like to talk directly with members of the Executive or other staff. Please be mindful however that this may not be immediately possible. Our Reception staff pass on messages they receive to the relevant members of staff and we endeavour to return these calls or emails within a 24-hour period. We thank those families who respectfully acknowledge that staff will respond when they are able to.

Parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed. A great way to contribute to the Girls Grammar community spirit, build connections amongst parents, plan for services, facilities and events is through our Parents and Friends Association. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month from 6.00pm. Usually these are held in Luck 1 however due to the Back to School Plan still being in effect until next Friday, next week’s meeting on Thursday 3 March will be held via zoom and I encourage any RGGS community members to attend. Congratulations and thank you to the incoming elected representatives for 2022:

  • President – Sharon Graham-Hohn

  • Vice-President – Liz Curtis

  • Secretary – Davina Pointing

  • Treasurer – Jacqui Goltz

We also welcome Jenni Cousens as the parent representative on the RGGS Uniform Committee. The School is fortunate to have such a wonderful community support system.

Today our Board of Trustees and Executive Team have engaged in a morning of Strategic Planning. This collaborative engagement, review and strategizing and evaluating have led to the finalisation of Rockhampton Girls Grammar School’s Master Plan and Strategic Plan. This has been a result of months of consultation and consideration across a range of stakeholders from students, staff, parents, Old Girls, Executive, Board members and external providers. I look forward to sharing these documents and communicating the Strategic Direction of Rockhampton Girls Grammar with all our families in the coming weeks.
