A Word from our Principal - Staffing Updates

As we reach the final fortnight of Term 2, I would like to take this time to make mention of staffing changes for Term 3 and welcome new members to the Girls Grammar team.

Recruitment has taken up a large portion of our Human Resources Officer, Emily Conrad’s time since Term 4 last year. This workload is demonstrative of the growth our school has experienced, along with some changes that are inevitable in education.

The Girls Grammar community sends many well wishes to Laryssa Anger and Stephanie Marston who have commenced their maternity leave as they prepare to both welcoming their first child (and future Girls Grammar students…)

We are very fortunate to welcome two teachers who have a high degree of knowledge and teaching experience in the senior specialist subjects we have farewelled Laryssa and Stephanie from.

Miss Emma Girle will be replacing Ms Anger in the ‘Arts’ department during her 12 months of maternity leave. Miss Girle is heavily involved in Rockhampton’s drama, dance and theatrical community and is looking forward to continuing the dancing and drama cocurricular activities Ms Anger has been leading. Ms Chris Read will be returning to our school as senior Business and Legal Studies teacher and comes with a wealth of experience in teaching these senior subjects.

Over the past weeks we have had the pleasure of welcoming Tony Wilkinson to the school’s grounds and maintenance team and Georgia Millar to our boarding team as boarding supervisor. We welcome Linda Halson and Gay Girle replacing Mrs Lee Bartlem while she takes leave over the final few weeks of term. It is always lovely to hear the overwhelmingly positive comments from new staff as they experience teaching at Girls Grammar.

This week we have advertised for a full time Learning Enhancement Coordinator to begin in Term 3 and are recruiting for a Secondary Mathematics teacher to commence next term as we will be farewelling Mrs Sian Fullagar at the end of Term 2. Paula Donaghy one of our wonderful cleaners is moving back to Tasmania and we wish her all the best. We are currently recruiting for a new cleaner and another dedicated team member to join us as a Boarding Supervisor.

On Wednesday we celebrated and recognised the significant contribution our school officers and non-teaching staff make to support the quality education at Girls Grammar. We thank them for all the care they give our students and the important role that they play in our school community.

Congratulations to the Rockhampton Girls Grammar Show Team who have been busy this week at the Rockhampton Agricultural Show. News just in is that they have taken out the Stud and Commercial Cattle Interschool Challenge! Their professionalism, team work and manner in which they have represented our school should be commended along with the support and guidance provided by Mrs Salena McBride and husband Kevin McBride. The confidence they demonstrated in their showing and judging of cattle should be commended, and the number of placings they received is a testament to the training they have received from the team of Girls Grammar families who have been involved in the process.

I would like to wish our Year 12s all the very best for their formal this weekend. I hope that you and your families and guests have a memorable weekend celebrating this milestone. I, along with the Girls Grammar community, look forward to marking this special occasion with you.
