Celebrating Excellence: Girls Grammar Students Honoured at 2024 Darumbal Awards Night

On 11 October, Darumbal Community Youth Service celebrated their 17th Annual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Awards that recognises and celebrates students' achievements within their schools, families and community. Rockhampton Girls Grammar School was proudly represented by Tylah, Phoenix, Sophie, Vivian, and Alexandra. Each of these students is a well-respected member of the Rockhampton Girls Grammar community, recognised for their dedication and outstanding contributions.

Tylah was awarded the Academic Award in recognition of her exceptional dedication to her Year 12 studies. Elected as the 2024 Academic Prefect, Tylah has been an enthusiastic leader, offering her time and assistance across academic initiatives. Her commitment to excellence has set a strong example for her peers.

Sophie received the Sporting Award for her impressive participation in Rockhampton Girls Grammar cocurricular activities. She was selected for the 2024 QISSN team and the All Schools Touch team and also actively participated in rugby league, social season netball, and the Cap Coast Netball Carnival. Her dedication to sport was further recognised as she was awarded the 2024 Best and Fairest Player for the RGGS QISSN team.

Phoenix earned two awards: Citizenship and Senior Student of the Year, reflecting her tireless efforts and positive contributions to the Girls Grammar community. Elected as a 2025 prefect, Phoenix participated in NAIDOC, volunteered at multiple events, and served as an inspiration to both primary and secondary students. Her involvement in club netball and the Cap Coast Carnival further showcased her commitment to her school and community.

Vivian also received a Citizenship Award for her endless efforts in supporting others. Known for her reliability and encouragement, Vivian assists in Jackson House (the boarding house) and actively engages in her classes. A standout in rugby league, she exemplifies leadership and dedication, making her a deserving recipient of this honour.

Alexandra was recognised in the Citizenship category for her continuous contributions to the school community. She played a lead role as Vivian Kensington in the 2024 Girls Grammar musical Legally Blonde, and her success at the Rockhampton Vocal Eisteddfod was marked by multiple top placements. As a member of Bella Voce, Alexandra’s passion and talent inspire others to strive for excellence.

Congratulations to all these students for their achievements at the Darumbal Awards Night and for their continued positive impact on the Girls Grammar community.
