Farewell to 2025 – Reflecting on the Final Fortnight

ree

As the 2025 school year draws to a close, the final fortnight has been full of mixed emotions, moments that remind me of what makes Girls Grammar so special.

Our most prestigious tradition, Speech Night, set the tone for these celebrations. As Girls Grammar’s 134th, it continues to shine in significance, honouring the academic achievements of students across Prep to Year 12. It was a night of pride and anticipation as we announced our incoming Prefects, their Portfolios, and our two Head Girls for 2026. The cheers and excitement that filled the Pilbeam Theatre were a true reflection of our school spirit. Congratulations to all award recipients and to our newly appointed leaders.

From there, the energy shifted to creativity and performance with Girls Rock. The stage came alive with an extraordinary array of talent, and my face still hurts from smiling as I watched our students shine in their element. The support from the audience was electric, and it summed up what I love most about our school, a community that celebrates individuality, creativity, and champions one another.

Amid these celebrations, we shared a bittersweet moment as our Year 12 students said their final goodbyes. Their last War Cry as a cohort echoed with pride before the iconic Panama Hat Toss and the spirited run up the service road, a tradition that binds generations of Girls Grammar students together. These rituals mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, and I am so proud of the young women they have become.

Our Year 6 students also marked an important milestone, graduating from primary school and preparing for the adventure of secondary education. At the same time, new students for 2026 joined us for Transition Day, navigating nerves and anticipation as they met new friends and explored their future school. For our incoming boarders, an overnight stay offered the chance to experience a day and night in the boarding house, forming connections and easing some of the nerves before they commence in the new year.

Finally, we wrapped up the year with the much-anticipated School Party, where our Year 11 cohort truly stepped into their leadership roles. Their energy and commitment throughout this event showed that the baton has been passed, and the future of Girls Grammar is in capable hands.

For staff, this season brings its own mix of emotions, farewelling students who have left their mark and preparing to welcome new faces next year. It’s a time of reflection, gratitude, and anticipation for what lies ahead.

To our families, thank you for your unwavering support and involvement throughout 2025. To our dedicated staff, your commitment and care make all the difference. I look forward to welcoming both current and new families back on Tuesday, 27 January, at our Welcome Family BBQ, a perfect way to begin another exciting year together.

Until then, enjoy a well-deserved break. Wishing you a happy, healthy, and joyful holiday season.
