The 2025 QLD Oztag All Schools Tournament was once again a showcase of emerging talent, with more than 180 teams from over 59 schools across Queensland converging at Sunshine Coast Stadium. The scale of the competition was immense, and Girls Grammar was proud to be among the contenders, competing in the Year 12 Girls Division.
Despite coming up against older and more experienced opponents, our girls held their own with grit, determination, and impressive teamwork. The tournament highlights included two thrilling wins and a hard-fought draw. We opened with a dominant 9–1 victory over St Ursula’s College, followed by a tight 6–5 win against Bribie Island SHS. Perhaps most exciting was our comeback to secure a 4-all draw against Sienna Catholic College.
One of the biggest challenges came during our Saturday night clash with St Luke’s College. We started the game strong, taking a 3–0 lead into halftime. But just before the break, torrential rain began to fall, turning the field into a slippery challenge for both sides. St Luke’s capitalised on the conditions in the second half, benefiting from the kick off and gaining repeat attacking sets due to handling errors caused by the weather, and eventually taking out the win.
The downpour continued through the night, and by Sunday morning, field conditions forced tournament organisers to reschedule and ultimately cancel the final round games and quarter finals. Only the top two teams in each pool advanced straight to the semi finals. Unfortunately, this brought our carnival to an early end. It was a bitter pill to swallow, especially knowing a win in our final game could have secured us a spot in the quarter finals.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated coach, Kaitlyn, for her time, energy, and unwavering support throughout the season. The team has shown real growth under her guidance, and we’re hopeful for even more success in the local competition.
Finally, a huge thank you to our amazing supporters and parents who were there cheering us on every step of the way. Your positivity and encouragement were felt in every game.
