From the Track to the Court: Celebrating Student Sporting Success

Strong Performances at RDS Athletics Trials

It was an exciting and action-packed three days at the Rockhampton and District School Sport Athletics Trials held on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of Week 3. Girls Grammar was proudly represented by 35 talented athletes, all striving to earn a place in the 2025 RDS team, which will head to Mackay on August 18 and 19 for the Capricornia Trials.

Many of our students delivered standout performances across a range of events with 21 students being selected in the RDS team.

With all eyes on the 100m event, Tiffany, Alexandra, and Charlee all made the final of their respective 100m races, with Alexandra winning her final - an impressive achievement. Earlier in the day, straight finals were held for the 15yrs and 17yrs 100m events, where Isabel secured 3rd place and Jalime claimed 1st place in their respective races.

Cap Coast Netball Carnival Wrap-Up

Girls Grammar was proudly represented by six teams at this year’s Cap Coast Netball Carnival. What began with a shaky start - Saturday’s games postponed and then ultimately cancelled due to heavy rain and strong winds - quickly turned into a day of fast-paced action on Sunday thanks to the efforts of the dedicated carnival organisers.

With all games squeezed into Sunday, matches were shortened to 6-minute halves, creating a rapid pace that made for thrilling viewing and some very tired players by the end of the day. Each team played approximately 7–10 games in strong winds, showing skill, resilience, and demonstrating sportsmanship throughout. Special mention goes to our teams who faced the added challenge of playing on wet, slippery grass courts, yet rose to the occasion with admirable determination as they slipped, slid and shone through it all!

While all teams performed admirably, special mention goes to our youngest and oldest squads. The RGGS Polywonga’s, competing in the 6–8 Years division, claimed first place, while the RGGS Gold team, in the 16–18 Years division, also took out top honours in Pool 1. These achievements are a demonstration of the talent and determination within our netball program.

A huge thank you goes to our incredible umpires, many of whom juggled officiating duties with playing, and to our dedicated coaches for giving up their time to support and guide our teams. Your contribution made the day possible, and memorable, for everyone involved.
