Girls Grammar Curriculum Catch-Up: Laying Foundations for a Bright Future

Over the past few weeks, I have had the privilege of conducting several individual academic interviews with our Year 12 students. These interviews have focused on assessing their academic progress and ensuring that their chosen career paths are still relevant. As our Year 12 girls embark on their final semester of school, it is crucial that they are aware of the various options and pathways available to them in pursuing their desired careers.

Traditionally, many students have considered applying to universities as the primary route to their chosen professions. However, we are witnessing a growing number of students recognising the value of alternative pathways that may be more suitable for their individual circumstances. It is truly inspiring to see our students taking proactive control of their futures by investing time and effort into researching their desired careers. It is important to emphasise that there is rarely only one pathway to a successful career.

For instance, if a student is ineligible for direct entry into a university course, there are alternate diploma-level qualifications that can serve as a steppingstone towards their desired degree. By acknowledging these options, our students are empowering themselves to explore diverse avenues and seize opportunities that align with their aspirations.

While I have already engaged in many informal conversations with students, I will also hold a formal information session for our Year 12 cohort in Term 3. This session will specifically focus on guiding them through the application process for universities via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC). It is essential that our students are well-informed about the application procedures and requirements to ensure a smooth transition into their tertiary education journey.

Of course, at this stage, the impact of external examinations on final academic results remains an uncertainty. Therefore, it is paramount that each student has already commenced formal preparation for their General subjects. We kindly request parents of our Year 12 students to dedicate some time during the upcoming break to reinforce the school's message that external examinations cannot be adequately prepared for in a short time period. Our mantra is 'You cannot cram for an external exam.' The diligent groundwork must already be underway, and each student must take control of their learning.

It is important to understand that rewards only come with determination and resilience. These continue to be the dominant factors in our girls finding ultimate success in their endeavours. We encourage our students to remain focused, persevere through challenges, and maintain a growth mindset as they navigate their final semester.

We are confident that with the guidance and support provided by our dedicated teachers and staff, coupled with the determination and hard work of our Year 12 girls, they will achieve remarkable outcomes and lay the foundation for a bright future.
