In Term 3, I had the pleasure to meet with the Honourable Michelle Landry (Federal Member for Capricornia) and her associate (and current parent) Mrs Lauren Clein. Ms Landry chatted with me about National Youth Parliament, a program which comprises of one 16–17-year-old from each Federal electorate; this program aims to create youth engagement in a political setting. After our meeting Ms Landry kindly provided a letter of reference to aid in my application.
I was honoured to introduce Ms Landry to the Year 10 Careers Education Class. We were provided insights into a career as a woman in National Parliament. Including what a day in Parliament looks like. Ms Landry also shared some stories from her experiences representing Capricornia in the House of Representatives.
Following the presentation Ms Landry answered more specific questions asked by the Year 10 students. The conversation motivated many of us to contribute to our local community.
I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to meet such an inspiring past student.
