Meet Rockhampton Girls Grammar's Indigenous Education Officers

Meet Bindoo..

From the idyllic shores of Mauritius to the welcoming warmth of Australia, Bindoo’s journey is one of cultural richness, professional dedication, and personal growth. A seasoned educator with over 23 years of experience in international schools, Bindoo brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to her current role as an Indigenous Education Officer at Rockhampton Girls’ Grammar School.

Her expertise in the PYP and IPC curricula, coupled with a Master’s in Education – Leadership and Management, has enabled her to take on diverse roles throughout her career such as a teacher, mentor, team leader, milepost coordinator, and language coordinator. Bindoo’s passion for education extends beyond the classroom, making a meaningful impact wherever she goes.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Bindoo finds joy in life’s simple pleasures. Evening walks have become a cherished part of her daily routine, offering moments of reflection and tranquility amidst the busyness of life.

Family remains at the heart of Bindoo’s journey. Her two sons, Akhilesh and Alexander, are an integral part of her life - one continuing his path in Mauritius, while the other embarks on his university studies in Australia. As she settles into life in Rockhampton, alongside her husband, Bindoo is embracing a new chapter, building a future filled with discovery, and opportunity.

Meet Emily..

Growing up as the daughter of a school principal, Emily was certain of one thing - educating was not in her future. Yet, life often has a way of leading people exactly where they are meant to be.

After spending time at a small school in Hervey Bay, she took a leap and accepted the Indigenous Education Officer position here at Rockhampton Girls Grammar, embracing both professional growth and the opportunity to finally live with her partner.

Her passion lies in educating children from all backgrounds, but the group of students she is currently working with already hold a special place in her heart. Their fresh perspectives and unique experiences offer her valuable lessons every day, reminding her that educating is a continuous exchange - while she imparts knowledge, her students also shape her understanding of the world.

Outside the classroom, she finds joy in adventure. Beach outings and road trips with her partner serve as the perfect escape, complete with coffee stops and a collection of road-trip snacks.

Looking back, she can’t help but smile at the irony - educating, the very path she once resisted, has become the most fulfilling journey of all.
