Gold Coast Titans All Schools Tournament

The Girls Grammar team made a bold statement at the prestigious Gold Coast Titans All Schools Tournament, competing in the 18 Girls division with a remarkably young squad. Despite seven of the fourteen players being eligible for the U13 and U15 divisions, the team showcased resilience, skill, and teamwork well beyond their years.
Placed in a competitive pool, the girls secured second place with an impressive record - winning four out of six round games. Their results were as follows:
4-2 win vs St Joseph's Toowoomba
4-3 win vs St Peters Lutheran College
2-4 loss vs St Ursula's Yeppoon
6-4 win vs St Margaret's
0-8 loss vs St Aidan's
4-1 win vs Wavell SHS

Opposition teams struggled to contain the blistering pace of Jalime, whose speed created constant pressure, and the dazzling footwork of Alissa, who danced through defenders with ease. On the defensive end, Bria and Ava anchored the team with strong positioning and clear communication, ensuring smooth transitions and cohesive play.
Off the field, the girls enjoyed bonding time in the beautiful surrounds of Surfers Paradise. Walks along the beach, relaxing in the sauna and spa, swimming in both the indoor heated pool and the outdoor pool where the slides were a hit, and indulging in frozen yoghurt at Yochi on Cavill Avenue made for a memorable experience. It was heartwarming to see such camaraderie among players of varying ages, forming friendships and memories that will last well beyond the tournament.
Congratulations to the Girls Grammar team for their outstanding performance and sportsmanship!
CQ Primary Rugby 7s Carnival

Last Thursday marked a milestone moment for Girls Grammar as our first-ever primary school rugby 7s team took to the field at the CQ Primary Rugby 7s Carnival, hosted at Colts Rugby Grounds. With grit, determination, and a whole lot of heart, our girls made an unforgettable debut - proving that courage and teamwork can take you far, even in unfamiliar territory.
For many of the players, this was their first taste of rugby, and they embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and bravery. It was inspiring to see them step out of their comfort zones, try something new, and discover just how capable they are when they put their minds to it.
Led by a few seasoned club rugby players, the team quickly found their rhythm and stormed through the round games undefeated:
20-0 win vs St Joey's Wandal (Blue)
10-0 win vs St Joey's Park Avenue
30-5 win vs St Anthony's Blue
Their efforts earned them a spot in the grand final, where they faced a strong St Anthony's Gold side. Despite a tough 5-30 loss, our girls showed incredible sportsmanship and pride, walking off the field with heads held high and smiles on their faces.
This carnival wasn’t just about scores - it was about growth, courage, and the joy of trying something new. The Girls Grammar team has set the tone for future primary rugby squads, and we couldn’t be prouder of their achievements. A big thank you also goes out to Kate Loakes who gave up her time to come and assist for the day. Not only did she help coach, but she even refereed games and was an asset to our girls.
Here’s to many more firsts, fierce tackles, and fearless young athletes!
CQ Secondary Rugby 7s Carnival
The sun was blazing and so were the Girls Grammar teams at the CQ Secondary Rugby 7s Carnival held at the Barmaryee Sports Complex in Yeppoon on Saturday. With temperatures soaring to 31 degrees, our athletes showed grit, determination, and plenty of heart across a full day of rugby action.
While the Opens division was unfortunately cancelled due to a lack of teams, Girls Grammar proudly fielded teams in both the U14s and U16s divisions, with a number of new players stepping onto the rugby pitch for the very first time. Their courage and willingness to try something new was nothing short of inspiring.
The U14s team had a tough start, dropping their first two matches, but they rallied with impressive teamwork and resilience to win their final two games - earning a well-deserved third place finish. Their growth throughout the day was a testament to their spirit and coachability.
The U16s team also battled through some challenging matchups, finishing in third place after a series of hard-fought games. Their highlight came in a thrilling showdown against RGS in the final round - a nailbiter that had spectators on the edge of their seats.
A huge thank you goes out to the staff who came along to cheer on the girls. Your support meant the world - especially the Zooper Doopers and cold oranges, which were absolute lifesavers in the heat!
We would like to pass on a huge thank you to coach Aarre for dedicating his time to run the development program across Term 3 and for coaching both teams on Saturday. His experience and positivity is the reason our girls are developing so well.
Lastly, a big congratulations to Kate Loakes for refereeing her first rugby carnival. Kate did a great job refereeing across the u14s boys and girls divisions for the day, clocking up an impressive seven games. Well done Kate!
Secondary Surf League 2025

On Friday, our strong-but-small team of two girls travelled to capture the surf-sport spirit at the Secondary School Surf League held at Emu Park Surf Lifesaving Club on the Capricorn Coast. Despite the modest size of our team the girls were able to make a mighty impact. First up, 13-year-old Isla stormed through the swim event – not only being the first female across the line but taking out first place overall.
In the beach flags event our girls – despite having no prior experience in this discipline – progressed through many rounds and managed to grab the flag each time only getting knocked out in the final rounds. I was so proud to see them just show up and have a go without fear, demonstrating a true competitive spirit.
In the sprints, Summa dug deep and placed 5th overall. A fantastic result for our school.
Beyond the results, the day was a terrific opportunity for our students to mix with others from schools across Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast, build their confidence in the surf-environment and represent RGGS strongly and proudly. Congratulations to both Isla and Summa.
