Rockhampton Girls Grammar School: A Mid-Year Reflection and Recognition

It’s hard to believe we’ve already arrived at the halfway point of the school year! As we enter the mid year break, it offers a timely opportunity to pause and reflect on all that has taken place across the first two terms.

While we are, at our heart, a school and education is our core business, we are also so much more than that. Girls Grammar is a vibrant, caring community where learning happens in so many forms. Formally, through academics, but also in friendships, on the sporting field, on stage, in service to others, in leadership, and in the everyday moments that shape character and connection.

As our students and teaching staff begin a well-earned three-week break, I want to acknowledge the efforts behind the scenes. For many teachers, the term break isn’t just a time for rest, it’s also a chance to plan, prepare and refine curriculum to ensure we continue to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences in Term 3. The commitment and care our staff show our girls, often well beyond the classroom, is something I am deeply grateful for.

It’s also important to recognise that teachers represent less than half of our overall staff. A school like ours cannot run without the quiet dedication and hard work of many others. To our incredible teams across Finance, Facilities, Grounds and Maintenance, Cleaning, Kitchen, IT, Administration, and Executive leadership, thank you. Each of you plays a vital role in keeping our school running smoothly and supporting the day-to-day experiences of our students and families. Your work may often happen behind the scenes, but it is noticed and genuinely appreciated.

During the break, the school will remain a busy and exciting place as we host billets for the much-anticipated 45th Confraternity Carnival. The following week, we’ll also welcome teams participating in the Junior State Cup Touch Football tournament. We are proud to showcase our beautiful campus and outstanding facilities, and I know visiting students and staff will feel warmly welcomed and well supported by our community.

We also extend our very best wishes to our QISSN netball team as they travel to Bundaberg to compete in the statewide tournament. To the staff, coaches, managers, and families who have worked so hard to prepare the team and who will be there to support them throughout the week, thank you. Your time, care, and encouragement mean the world. Girls, we are all cheering for you and can’t wait to follow your progress.

In the first week of the holidays, our Marketing and Events Manager, Kaitlyn Graham, will be representing Girls Grammar at Ag Grow in Emerald. If you're attending, please pop by our marketing stand to say hello, we always love catching up with members of our broader school community, Old Girls, past, present and future families.

And a heartfelt thank you to our wonderful Parents and Friends Association for organising our new Girls Grammar supporter shirts. They look fantastic, and I’m so looking forward to seeing them proudly worn by parents, caregivers, friends, and supporters across our many cocurricular events. It’s just one more way our community shows its strong spirit and pride.

As we bring Semester 1 to a close, I want to express my sincere thanks to every member of our staff and school community. Your dedication, care, and partnership are the foundation of all that we do. I hope these holidays offer a chance for rest, renewal, and reconnection and I look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting Term 3.
