Science Snippets & Mathematical Moments – Term 3 Wrap-Up

Term 3 has been bursting with curiosity, creativity, and clever thinking! Across all year levels, students have been exploring the wonders of Science and the magic of Mathematics through hands-on projects, real-world investigations, and imaginative challenges. Let’s take a look at what’s been happening in classrooms across the school!

Prep – Little Learners, Big Discoveries!

Science: Prep students became nature detectives, learning what makes something alive. They explored the needs of animals and plants, went on a living vs non-living scavenger hunt, and grouped creatures by their features.

Maths: From adding small numbers to comparing heavy and light objects, our Preppies have been busy building foundational skills. They’ve explored patterns, subtraction, capacity, and numbers to 20—all through play and exploration!

Year 2 – Stargazers in Training

Science: Our budding astronomers are preparing for a magical evening of stargazing! With telescopes in hand, they’ll observe planets, stars, and constellations—bringing their classroom learning about the sun, moon, and stars to life under the night sky.

Year 4 – Forces & Friction in Action

Science: Next term, Year 4 students will explore push, pull, friction, and gravity—culminating in a trip to the bowling alley to see these forces in action!

Maths: Students have been tackling tricky problems in scrapbooks, learning that messy thinking leads to brilliant breakthroughs. Mrs Hemson is seriously impressed!

Year 6 – World Travelers & Bright Sparks

Maths: Students designed their dream trips around the world in the Fantasy Flight project—calculating distances, time zones, and costs while staying under a 50,000 km limit.

Science: They built working lighthouses powered by electrical circuits and created posters showcasing how they work, featuring famous scientists and teamwork in discovery.

Year 7 – Levers, Culture & Celebration

Science: Students investigated levers and connected their learning to the traditional Woomera used by Indigenous Australians—highlighting the brilliance of First Nations technologies.

Maths: Through the Party Planning Project, students used ratios and percentages to plan the ultimate celebration!

Year 8 – Minecraft Meets Mathematics

Maths: Who knew Minecraft was packed with maths? Students built rollercoasters while exploring 3D coordinates, transformations, quadrilaterals, and Pythagoras’ Theorem. Learning has never been so fun!

Year 9 – GOATs & Graphs

Maths: Students dove into data to determine their Greatest Of All Time (GOAT) athlete. Using histograms, stemplots, and statistical analysis, they tested their hypotheses with real evidence.

Year 10 – Critical Thinkers & Creative Designers

Science: Students investigated bold claims like “Safety features in vehicles are useless,” developing research questions and gathering evidence to evaluate the truth.

Maths: Students created logos for fictional companies using functions and relations, then justified their designs with algebra and graphs.

Year 11 – Real-World Science & Meaningful Maths

Biology: Students mastered sterile lab techniques, tested antibiotics and handwashing, and analysed data to track disease outbreaks—gaining skills for future careers.

Essential Maths: Students surveyed peers about the canteen menu and pricing, then presented their findings to the student council.

General, Methods & Specialist Maths: Unit 2 is complete, and students are now stepping into Year 12 content. Course changes should happen early next term.

Year 12 – Final Stretch & Focused Prep

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, and Agricultural Science: Students are preparing for mock external exams, identifying areas for improvement and using tutorials and practice questions to sharpen their skills.

General, Methods and Specialist Maths: With internal assessments complete, students are now focused on preparing for their final external exams. Let’s finish strong!

From Prep to Year 12, our students have shown incredible curiosity, resilience, and creativity. Whether they were building lighthouses, planning parties, or analysing bacteria, they’ve proven that learning is an adventure—and Term 4 promises even more excitement!
