Junior Touch Grand Finals
Season 1 of Junior Touch Football came to an end on Friday June 3.
The 10 years team played in the division 4 Grand Final and went down to a strong Crushers outfit. The girls had a blast all season and with many new players. They learnt a lot and developed really well as the season went on, but most importantly, they all had fun. Thank you to Mr Danny Mitchell for coaching the girls this season.
The 12 years team also made the division 4 Grand Final. Unfortunately, our team had 4 players away and had to call on our ever keen under 10s to fill in. The girls did a great job, but unfortunately went down to Rebels. Thank you to Miss Laura Guley for her coaching throughout the season.
It was a bad week for Grand Finals as the 14 years team were also missing players, however, the girls powered into the game and gave it their all. They played the division 3 Grand Final against the Rocky Black representative team and despite scoring some really great tries, narrowly went down.
After enjoying a free sausage sizzle and icy poles, the girls finished their season 1 campaign with smiles.
Year 7 Interschool Netball Team Grand Final Success
Due to the State 12 Years Netball Carnival clashing with the Interschool Netball Finals in Week 9, the Year 7 division went to finals early. The RGGS team finished the rounds in first place in their pool and crossed over to play second place in the other pool for their semi final match. This semi final was played against Mount Morgan SHS and the RGGS girls started out strong and carried this form right through the game to win in convincing style.
Rockhampton SHS, who were second in our pool, took down the first place team from the other pool in RGS in their semi match up. This meant we would have a Girls Grammar v Rockhampton SHS replay of our earlier season round game, where we narrowly won. The girls were going into the Grand Final game a little nervous, and this showed in the first quarter where we went to the break behind. Our girls settled in the second quarter and played some really strong netball to claw back the lead. Then in the 3rd and 4th quarters they absolutely destroyed the opposition with some really high quality play, the final score being a whopping 35 – 7.
Congratulations to Taylah Parker who was selected Grand Final MVP.
Thank you to Miss Lacoste for her coaching efforts throughout the term.
Rocky City Regatta
We would like to wish the Rowing team the best of luck this Saturday at the Rocky City Regatta. We have a full team competing this weekend and would love some RGGS spectators out there cheering the girls on. The rowing action kicks off at 8.00am and will run through to 2.00pm. Come and find us at the RGGS tent down at the Fitzroy River Rowing Course.
Capricornia Tennis Selection
Congratulations to Mackenzie on her Capricornia 10-12 years Tennis Selection. Mackenzie went to Mackay on Monday with the RDS team to trial for Capricornia. She finished the trials undefeated and has been selected in the Capricornia team as the number 1 seed heading into the State Titles in Cairns in August.
