Club Netball Preliminary Final Win

Congratulations to Rockhampton Girls Grammar Saturn who have made the Grand Final of the Junior C1 division of the Rockhampton Netball Competition.

Tuesday night Saturn took on Frenchville Zebras in the preliminary final after going down to Gracemere Lynx last week in the major semi-final.

Saturn looked relaxed going into the game and after a great team talk by coach Jamie, the girls were ready to fire.

It was a fast and furious game with Saturn coming out of the gates strong and taking an early lead 12-6 after the first quarter. The scoring slowed up a little in the second quarter with both teams settling into their rhythm, Saturn ended the quarter up 15-10. After the half time break Zebras looked strong as they worked hard to close the gap and got the score to 18-14, with Saturn still holding onto their lead. In the fourth quarter the Frenchville crowd were very vocal and were spurring their team on. Saturn were turning over the ball through some rushed play and with seven minutes to go, Zebras had clawed the score back to 18-all. Saturn rose to the challenge getting some great turn overs and taking their time to convert each one into goals for a final score of 24-19.

The Saturn cheer squad went wild and of course a Girls Grammar War Cry was heard around the courts.

The Grand Final will be played Tuesday 23 August at the Jardine Park Netball Courts. While the game times are yet to be advertised, it will likely be played around 6.00pm. We would love to see as many Navy and Gold supporters there as possible to cheer our girls on.

Capricorn Coast Netball Carnival

Girls Grammar had four teams participating in the Capricorn Coast Netball Carnival over the weekend. Teams came from as far north as Mt Isa, Bundaberg in the south and Emerald to the West.

Queensland Firebirds players, Kim Ravaillion and Kim Jenner were very popular as the girls spent time getting autographs, talking with them about their netball goals, and having their photos taken.

In some hot conditions the girls showed some great team play, school spirit and determination. RGGS Saturn and RGGS Nova both finished second in their pools in the 13 years division, earning themselves a runner-up medal and a photo with the Firebirds players.

Thank you to our fabulous coaches and umpires for giving up their weekend so our netballers can have these opportunities.
