Netball Grand Final Success – A Season to Remember
What a season it’s been for Girls Grammar netball! With 12 teams competing across various divisions, our players have shown incredible commitment, teamwork and passion week in and week out. Four teams made it through to the semi-finals, and three — Mercury, Starburst, and Comets — earned their spot in the grand finals played on Sunday.

Mercury have come so far this season, growing stronger with every game. Their grand final was a hard-fought battle from start to finish. They kept the pressure on, but RGS Lightning managed to break away in the final quarter, finishing with a 7-point lead. Despite the result, Mercury should be incredibly proud of their progress and the fight they showed on court.

Comets, our minor premiers, had a slow start in their grand final against RGS Dodgers, who jumped out to an early lead. But Comets didn’t give up — they dug deep, worked together, and clawed their way back to level the game. In the final minutes, the match slipped away by just two goals. It was a gutsy performance and a true reflection of their resilience and team spirit.

Starburst faced off against Frenchville Joeys in what was always going to be a close contest. These two teams have been neck and neck all season, and the grand final was no different. With the scores tight all game, Starburst held their nerve and let their teamwork shine through, edging ahead in the final minute to win 18–16. A thrilling finish and a well-deserved victory!
A massive thank you to all our coaches, supporters, umpires and volunteers — your time, energy and encouragement make all the difference. We’re so grateful for everything you do to support our players and the netball program.
Congratulations to all our teams on a fantastic season. We’re proud of every single player and can’t wait to see what next year brings!
Smith Breaks Through in Action-Packed Interhouse Netball Week
It was a week of fast passes, fierce rivalries, and plenty of house pride as RGGS secondary students hit the court for the 2025 Interhouse Netball Competition — and after a slow start to the year, Smith House finally broke through for an interhouse competition win, and what a win it was!
The competition kicked off with a nail-biting match between Downs and Smith, setting the tone for the week. Smith came out strong and held their ground to claim their first victory — a moment that had the Smith supporters cheering louder than ever. Meanwhile, the other Round 1 game delivered an early upset, with Williams taking down the much-fancied Paterson in a close and fiery contest.

Round 2 saw Smith continue their winning streak, defeating Paterson 8–5, while Downs bounced back to outplay Williams 10–8. With Smith looking confident and composed, the race for the second grand final spot came down to the final round. Would Williams sneak past Smith for a chance at the title, or could Downs hold their ground to earn a grand final berth?
Downs, clearly hungry for a rematch, stormed past Paterson 11–6 in Round 3. Smith, however, weren’t about to let their momentum slip — they edged out Williams in a thrilling 12–10 win, securing their place in the grand final.

Thursday’s grand final between Smith and Downs was everything we hoped for — fast, physical, and full of heart. Downs took an early lead, finishing the first half ahead 8–6. But Smith regrouped, tightened their defence, and with sharp shooting and slick court movement, surged ahead to take the win 19–14. It was a well-earned victory and a sweet moment for Smith House, finally lifting the interhouse netball trophy in 2025.
But the netball fun didn’t stop there…
Friday brought the much-anticipated Staff vs Year 12 match, and let’s just say — it was a humbling experience for the grown-ups. The staff started strong, showing flashes of brilliance and a few surprisingly agile moves (thank you, adrenaline). But once the Year 12s warmed up, it was like watching a sports documentary in fast-forward. Their speed, stamina, and suspiciously fresh knees left the staff scrambling — and not in a tactical way. The final score? A generous 10–2 to the students. The staff are currently reviewing their game plan, which may or may not include bribing the Claws to run extra training sessions in 2026 and reviewing the match rules to possibly request a 5-minute time limit.
A huge thank you to all students, staff, and supporters who made the week such a success. The energy, sportsmanship and school spirit on display were second to none — and we can’t wait to see what the next interhouse competition brings!
A Thrilling Interschool Football Grand Final - RDS Senior Champions
The Girls Grammar Open Soccer Team wrapped up their season in spectacular fashion, taking out the RDS Championship title after a nail-biting grand final against Yeppoon SHS.

From the first whistle, it was clear this was going to be a hard-fought match. The pace was electric, with Alissa showing incredible speed and agility to break through the defence, and Abbey dazzling with her ball control and vision. Their efforts helped Girls Grammar hit the scoreboard and edge ahead in a tense 1-0 victory.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Yeppoon SHS kept the pressure on, and our midfield and defensive line had to dig deep. Rosie was a standout in goal, pulling off some crucial saves to keep us in front. Girls worked tirelessly to win turnovers and push the ball back into attack, showing grit and determination right to the final whistle.
It was a true team effort, and every player played their part in securing the win. The girls showed heart, hustle, and a whole lot of teamwork, and now they can proudly call themselves RDS Champions!
A huge congratulations to the team and thank you to Mrs Whitehand for her coaching and making this season such a success.

Term 3 Finale: Interhouse Spirit Shines in Ball Games and Touch Football Carnivals
Friday 19 September marks the final day of Term 3, and what better way to wrap up the term than with two of our most anticipated interhouse events — the Primary Ball Games Carnival and the Naarah Austin Interhouse Touch Football Carnival.
The day kicks off at 8.45am with the Primary Ball Games at the CAB undercover court. This event is always a crowd favourite, bursting with colour, laughter and fierce house pride. There’s something special about ball games — the teamwork, the energy, and the sheer determination to claim victory for your house. It’s a true celebration of community and fun, and no house rivalry is taken more seriously than this one!
Meanwhile, our secondary students will head to the Rockhampton Touch Fields for the Naarah Austin Interhouse Touch Carnival, starting at 9.00am. This event never fails to impress, with students showcasing lightning-fast speed, sharp reflexes and jaw-dropping agility in what can only be described as touch football at its finest. It’s a day of athleticism, camaraderie and unforgettable moments — all in honour of Naarah’s legacy.
Parent Lounge acceptance is required for secondary students to attend the Touch Carnival, so we kindly ask families to confirm attendance as soon as possible.
We warmly invite parents and families to come along and cheer from the sidelines at both events. Your support means the world to our students, and we look forward to seeing plenty of spectators rallying behind their house teams as they chase glory.
Let’s finish Term 3 with spirit, sportsmanship and celebration!
