This term, students from all year levels have been diving deep into their Humanities and English studies, showing impressive dedication, creativity, and growth. From exploring historical events and cultural perspectives to crafting persuasive texts and engaging narratives, our classrooms have been buzzing with thoughtful discussion and meaningful learning.
What an incredible day our Year 3 girls had exploring Rockhampton’s past!
We began with a guided walk along the Rockhampton River Walk with Time Safari Tours, where the girls were bursting with questions and curiosity as they learned about the people and events that shaped our local history. Afterwards, we visited the Heritage Village, stepping back in time to experience how people once lived, worked, and built our community. The girls were fully engaged, asking thoughtful questions and soaking up the stories of our region’s rich history.
In Year 4 English, we've been busy exploring both classic and contemporary narratives. We began with Storm Boy by Colin Thiele, a much-loved Australian novel set along the Coorong coast. Through this tale, we've delved into themes of friendship, nature, and the environment. This culminated in writing information reports about pelicans, enhancing our research, note-taking, and factual writing skills. Towards the end of term, we transitioned to a modern narrative and explored The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. This story introduces Roz, a robot who finds herself stranded on a remote island and learns to adapt by interacting with the local wildlife. The novel helped us all consider the benefits of technology and the need for nature and wild places. Inspired by Roz's journey, we crafted persuasive reports discussing how robots can assist in daily life to make things easier and people happier. Year 4 are loving reading this term!
