A Term of Wonder: Learning, Laughing & Leading in Primary at Rockhampton Girls Grammar

Primary Movie Night

Last Friday evening, our Primary students snuggled into their PJs, grabbed their blankets, and settled in for a magical movie night watching Moana! With over 100 students in attendance, it was a fun-filled night of pizza, popcorn, poppers with an added sing along to finish off the night!

The event also supported a wonderful cause, with a donation for the Pyjama Foundation, helping to make a difference in the lives of children in foster care.

A huge thank you to the amazing staff who gave their time to make this night possible. Your support is what makes nights like these such a success.

A special shout-out to our Prefects, Sonny, Cadence and Ella, and the Primary Council members, who kept everyone fed and made sure the pizzas stayed warm, chocolates were flowing, and smiles were plenty.

Year 1 Visits Stirling Helicopters

ree

On Wednesday, our Year 1 students had an unforgettable visit to Stirling Helicopters, the aviation business owned by Digby and Siobhan Amess, parents of Scarlett in our class.

The students toured the hangar and got a rare, up-close look at a Black Hawk helicopter and other impressive aircraft in the fleet.

Adding even more excitement to the visit, we were lucky enough to witness Emma McDonald, a Red Bull aerobatics pilot, who wowed us with a thrilling display of twists, turns, rolls and spins.

A big thank you to Digby, Siobhan and the Stirling Helicopters team for making us feel so welcome and giving Year 1 an experience they won’t forget.

Year 3 Term

What a term it’s been for our Year 3 girls! From the excitement of hatching baby chicks in the classroom to exploring the Rockhampton Show, opening our doors for Parent Open Morning, and wrapping up the term with a special sushi-making experience — it’s been filled with hands-on learning and memorable moments. This week, the girls had the chance to step into the kitchen with Natsuko and learn how to make sushi. With rice on their fingers and smiles on their faces, they carefully rolled their own creations while learning about Japanese culture in a fun, interactive way. A big thank you to Natsuko for sharing her time and talents with us — what a delicious end to a fantastic term!

Year 3 and 4 Show

Last week, our Year 3 and 4 girls had a fantastic time exploring the Rockhampton Show! From cuddling adorable baby animals to discovering fascinating facts about sea creatures, toads, and the importance of recycling; the day was packed with hands-on experiences. It was a wonderful opportunity for the girls to engage their curiosity, learn through real-world encounters, and enjoy a fun-filled day of exploration and laughter.

Year 4 Cultural Diversity Morning

On Thursday, our Year 4 students hosted a Cultural Diversity Morning, celebrating the rich tapestry of backgrounds within our school community. Each student delved into their personal heritage, researching a country of significance to uncover traditional games and delicious recipes. These discoveries were then shared with peers, fostering an environment of mutual respect and curiosity. Events like this not only enrich our curriculum but also play a pivotal role in teaching empathy and understanding, highlighting the myriad ways our diverse community can connect and engage with one another.

Year 6 Celebration of Learning

On Wednesday afternoon, the Year 6 students hosted their families for a special Celebration of Learning to mark the end of the semester. It was a fantastic opportunity for the girls to share their work, reflect on their achievements, and showcase the progress they have made across a range of learning areas.

The afternoon highlighted not only the academic accomplishments of the students, but also their development in confidence, collaboration, and perseverance. It was wonderful to see the pride on their faces as they spoke about their learning journey so far this year. Thank you to all the families who attended and supported the event.
