A Word from Girls Grammar Principal: End of Semester Thanks and Community

As we come to the end of another successful semester at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the remarkable power and significance of our school community. Our collective spirit of connectedness, collaboration, and support by our students has truly shone through in everything they have accomplished throughout the first half of the year, in particular the past fortnight.

From the athletic field at our Year 4 -12 and Prep - 3 carnivals, to the stage for Anastasia the musical with tickets on sale now, from the halls of academia and the release of Semester 1 results to the successes of our Show Team, and last weekend’s vibrant Girls Grammar Race Day, our school community has consistently shown that greatness can be achieved when we work together.

Speaking of Girls Grammar Race Day, I am delighted to share the outstanding success of the event that took place last weekend. It was a testament to the remarkable dedication and teamwork displayed by our students, staff, and parents. We received heartfelt feedback that truly captured the essence of our school community. One staff member who supported on the day expressed, "The girls were amazing for race day. Not one girl didn't pull their weight. They worked together, asked questions, and kept going all afternoon. Every single one of them deserves recognition as they really were fantastic."

Such praise fills me with immense pride. To see the girls in action across these events whether they be within our school or external amongst the community it is a true honour to witness our students embracing the values of community and connection with such pride. Together, they have embodied these qualities, reflecting the true spirit of Rockhampton Girls Grammar School and our strong and supportive community vibe. Their ability to jump in where needed, be flexible, respectful, and work harmoniously is truly commendable and was a testament of support from another member of our school who attended Race Day.

However, the vibrant community we have extends far beyond Girls Grammar Race Day. We have witnessed the support and competitive spirit during the athletics carnival, where our students showcased unity and camaraderie. The upcoming school musical Anastasia, where talent takes centre stage and the sneak peak we enjoyed at this week’s assembly, serves as a reminder that each student has a unique gift to offer. When they come together, their collective brilliance shines brighter and this is what we foster and encourage through the holistic development of each and every student.

Let's not forget our incredible Show Team, whose training and dedication in the agricultural arena demonstrates the diversity that is iconic to our school. They embrace numerous opportunities, including those that come from a rural background and their many successes at last week’s Rockhampton Show is a testament to their hard work and passion.

Today, as we conclude Semester 1 and head into our mid-year break, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on what makes our school community truly unique and the influence this has on the lifelong learning aspirations of our students. The support, respect, and collaboration we demonstrate every day as an inclusive and understanding school community embody the very best of what education and personal growth can achieve and I am grateful to witness this in its many forms on a regular basis.

I wish you all a safe, happy, and healthy holiday. I look forward to welcoming you all back for an amazing second half of 2023.
