As Term 3 comes to a close, we are reminded that change is the only constant in life—and in schools. With each term, we see shifts in our community that bring both endings and new beginnings. This term has been no exception, and we take this opportunity to share some important staffing updates with our Girls Grammar community.
Farewell to Ms Sammy Cobon – Deputy Principal - Students
We begin by acknowledging the resignation of Sammy Cobon, who served as Deputy Principal – Students prior to commencing maternity leave in December 2024. Sammy has made the thoughtful decision to step away from her role to focus on her young and growing family, now settled on their property outside Biloela.

Sammy has shared the following message with our community:
"Farewell for now, from the Deputy Principal – Students
It is with mixed emotions that I share my resignation from the role of Deputy Principal – Students. This decision has not come easily; however, my family and I have become settled on our property outside Biloela, and at this stage in my life, the priority must be to my young and growing family.
Reflecting on my time at Girls Grammar, I am filled with gratitude. What began as a short contract teaching Year 6 Science and Geography grew into something far greater than I ever imagined. I have been blessed with the opportunity to work alongside incredible colleagues, dedicated families, and, most importantly, the students who make this community so special.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Jenny Luck and Kara Krehlik for entrusting me with the role of Deputy Principal – Students. This has truly been my dream role, where I have cherished working closely with students and parents on a deeper level, supporting them through both challenges and triumphs.
It is also an exciting time for Girls Grammar, with the school’s involvement in the Brainwise initiative and the launch of the new strategic directions. These bring a strong focus on further strengthening our wonderful school and improving outcomes for students, and I look forward to watching these initiatives unfold.

During my time at Girls Grammar, I am proud of what we have been able to achieve together. Highlights for me include introducing the new Pastoral Care program, embedding the neuroscience of learning into our everyday practice, and launching the Kindness and Respect initiative. I am also pleased to have overseen the successful completion of the ACER survey and to have contributed to improving student wellbeing across the school. These are practical, meaningful changes that I believe will serve the school well into the future.
I will deeply miss the staff, families, and students who have become such an important part of my life. While I may be stepping away from my position, I will always remain a friend to the school. I am proud to have been part of the Girls Grammar story and will continue to be a strong advocate for both the school and the value of an all-girls education."
We thank Sammy for her outstanding contributions and leadership, and we wish her all the very best as she embraces the joys of motherhood and life on the land.
Welcoming Ms Amita Kapur – Acting Head of Boarding (Term 4)

As we farewell one valued staff member, we are pleased to welcome Ms Amita Kapur, who joins Rockhampton Girls Grammar School in a temporary capacity as Acting Head of Boarding for Term 4.
Amita brings with her over 10 years of experience in girls’ boarding, having served as a Senior Boarding Supervisor and Acting Head of Boarding on many occasions at Clayfield College, a leading all-girls boarding school in Brisbane. Her expertise includes supporting girls aged 10–18, fostering a cohesive and nurturing team environment, and building strong relationships with students, families, and staff. Amita is highly skilled in overseeing daily operations, managing staff, and leading pastoral care programs with a focus on maintaining high standards of student wellbeing.
Here are a few words from Amita as she introduces herself to our community:
“I am originally from India and made the big move to Australia in 2013. My background is in teaching, and I’ve always had a deep passion for working with teenagers—understanding, inspiring, guiding, and supporting them through some of the most formative years of their lives.
I’m also a health and nutrition enthusiast and believe strongly in the importance of a balanced lifestyle. In my free time, I love travelling to new destinations, going for long walks, and catching up with friends. I enjoy trying new experiences—one of my recent favourites was Yoga with Puppies!
Outside of education, I’m a qualified Pharmacy Assistant and enjoy working in community pharmacy when I get the chance. I love connecting with people who share similar interests and passions, and I’m truly excited to be joining the Girls Grammar community.”
We warmly welcome Amita and look forward to the energy, care, and leadership she will bring to our boarding program in Term 4.
As we close Term 3, we extend our gratitude to all staff, students, and families for your continued support and commitment to our school. We look forward to a vibrant and successful Term 4.
Kara Krehlik
