At Girls Grammar, community engagement is something we pride ourselves on. I believe it is important as citizens to get involved in local activities as this will ensure more opportunities are created. We have the same philosophy in boarding. If girls continue to sign up for what is offered, more activities will be planned.
This week we are competing in and supporting our Show Cattle team. Approximately 20 girls are involved in this team as well as close to 40 boarders who have signed up to go to the Show as an outing. A highlight will be watching the fireworks in the evening.
Community sport participation rates are high in netball, touch football, oztag and the Rockhampton Park Run. This week we will be supporting and cheering for Dolma who is currently away competing at the volleyball State Titles. Next week our Year 6 girls are off to the district athletics trials.
Community support and engagement extends to other schools in the region. On the weekend 40 girls are going to watch TCC's production of The Addams Family and the Jackson girls are hosting some St Brendan’s boys for a social. Plans are in the works for some outings to the beach where we can catch up with those same boys for a sausage sizzle and some games.
All of these activities and outings help:
build community within our boarding houses
forge friendships
and create memories
Of course we are supporting the Queenslanders in the State of Origin over the next couple of weeks. We are fortunate that there isn’t any school after the first game although the Show cattle team is heading out at 5:30am. Go the Maroons!
