Celebrating Christina Bond: An Extraordinary Musical Achievement

Rockhampton Girls Grammar School is immensely proud to celebrate the incredible achievement of staff member and Old Girl, Christina Bond, whose talent and dedication to music have been recognised on a national scale. Christina has had three of her original piano compositions published in the prestigious Australian Guild of Music and Speech (AGMS) Piano Odyssey series. Her pieces are now part of the Step One, Step Two, and Grade 4 books, meaning students across Australia and even overseas will be learning and performing her music.

Being published in a nationwide music series is a remarkable accomplishment, and Christina’s inclusion in the AGMS Piano Odyssey highlights not only her skill as a composer but also her contribution to Australia’s rich musical landscape. The AGMS is dedicated to making music exams fresh, fun, and dynamic while maintaining a high standard. In this pursuit, they have made a concerted effort to support living Australian composers, particularly female composers, who are often underrepresented in the industry. This year, AGMS reached a milestone, with 47% of composers in their Grade 3 to 6 books being female Australian composers and arrangers—an inspiring step forward in gender representation within the music world.

Christina has been composing for several years and has previously self-published her work. To now see her music recognised and included in such an esteemed publication is truly wonderful. Her passion for music and composition is an inspiration to our students, some of whom are already using these very books in their piano studies.
