This term, students across our school have been diving into hands-on, real-world learning experiences that blend creativity, problem-solving, and skill development.
Year 7 Digital Technologies: Tinker, Code, and Create for a Kinder, Smarter World

Ever wished people just knew when you needed someone to talk to - or maybe just a little peace and quiet? This term, our ingenious Year 7 students have been tackling exactly these kinds of everyday challenges through their Wearable Technology project in Digital Technologies.

Students have learned to program BBC Micro:bits - palm-sized computers - to create interactive devices designed for users of all ages and needs, from toddlers to the elderly. Their brief was both creative and compassionate: develop a mini-game, alert system or communication tool, and embed it into a wearable prototype using recycled materials.
The results were both practical and heart-warming. One group developed a flashing, musical guessing game to support early learning for prep children. Another created a bracelet for toddlers to let parents know they are hungry or thirsty at the push of a button. A standout project included a pendant designed for older adults or those with limited speech, capable of detecting a fall and automatically alerting a carer while also providing reassurance that the wearer is okay.
Using cardboard, raffia, ribbon, and leftover crafting supplies, students designed their own wristbands, brooches, pendants and headbands - giving their prototypes a unique flair. More than a coding challenge, this project invited empathy, ingenuity, and a touch of playfulness into the classroom.
We are so proud of the girls’ thoughtful and imaginative work - what a wonderful blend of technology, creativity, and care!
Meanwhile, in Year 7 Food & Textiles, the focus has been on healthy eating. Students have been researching, testing, and refining their own nutritious muffin recipes, learning about balanced ingredients and the science of baking. The results? Delicious, health-conscious treats that reflect thoughtful design and culinary creativity.
Across the Primary Physical Education program, students have been honing their athletic techniques. With a focus on refining form, building endurance, and developing sportsmanship, our young athletes are growing in confidence and capability. Whether sprinting, jumping, or throwing, each student is working toward personal bests in each event.
In Spanish classes, students have taken a leap into global communication by partnering with penpals in Spain. They’ve begun exchanging letters, practicing their language skills in authentic, meaningful ways while building cultural connections and friendships across continents.
These diverse learning experiences highlight our commitment to engaging, meaningful education that prepares students for the future - one project, recipe, letter, and race at a time.
