Our Year 11 students recently travelled to The Capricorn Caves for their three-day leadership camp, accompanied by Mrs King, Miss Cesar, and Miss Musekiwa. During their stay, the girls participated in a wide range of activities designed to foster teamwork and problem-solving amongst the cohort. The girls endured adventure caving and high ropes where they supported one another to face those fears of heights and tight spaces, as well as orienteering where they navigated themselves through bushland to solve a series of puzzles. We were greeted by a familiar face as 2024 Girls Grammar graduate, Bethany Dey, led each of the groups through the adventure caving and it was a great opportunity for the girls to chat with her about her experiences at school and how these helped shape her role as a guide for young people visiting the caves. Some other highlights of the camp included intensive rounds of dodgeball and tug of war, the evening cathedral cave tour, and a well-earned night spent by the campfire.
We also received visits from Mrs Krehlik and Dr Fry who both conducted sessions on the fundamental skills and responsibilities of being a leader, as the Year 11 students prepare for their upcoming prefect nomination process. Mrs King also led a session that encouraged the girls to reflect upon their development as a leader so far, helping them to identify their personal strengths and areas for growth as they begin to take on leadership roles around the school.
The Year 11 leadership camp was a great success, and we also thank Miss Glasswell for her support in planning the event as well as Mrs Dey for filling in with supervision during the trip.
