National Boarding Week: Celebrating Our Threads of Connection

Last week, the boarding house at Girls Grammar came alive with joy, laughter, and heartfelt gratitude as we celebrated National Boarding Week. Embracing the theme 'Threads of Connection', our community reflected on the many ways we are linked - through friendship, family, shared experiences, and the unique spirit of boarding life.

The week was filled with meaningful and creative activities. Our girls delighted in craft sessions that highlighted their individual creativity and collective spirit. A special outing to the shops had students purchasing food and supplies to support those less fortunate - an act of kindness that embodies the compassion of our boarding community. One particularly memorable activity involved the girls designing dolls that represented themselves, each paired with a heartfelt message to our sensational supervisors, who are the heart of our home away from home.

A wonderful highlight of the week was when our boarders proudly opened their doors to the wider school community. They invited teachers and staff to tour the boarding house, showing off where they live and sharing what makes boarding so special. The girls also hosted primary classes, taking the younger students on guided tours of the dormitories and giving them a glimpse into life as a boarder.

We also took time to honour the incredible support we receive from our families. Mrs Krehlik, along with our wider boarding staff, was warmly celebrated for her unwavering guidance and care. Some of our students even created Tiktok-style video messages to express their appreciation to their parents - a modern and touching twist on saying thank you.

Throughout the week, the boarding house was filled with laughter, creativity, and connection. Ours is a community where lasting memories are made every day - where girls cheer each other on, lift each other up, and form friendships that will last a lifetime.

As we look ahead to the weekend, excitement is building for the Year 12 Formal. It’s a truly special event for our boarders, who gather with pride and admiration to witness their 'big sisters' transform into confident, radiant young women. The walk-through is always a magical moment, with cheers, gasps, and joyful exclamations as we celebrate the remarkable individuals they’ve become.

At Girls Grammar, our boarding community is more than just a place to stay - it’s a family, a vibrant tapestry of shared experiences, and a place where every girl is valued, supported, and connected.
