This week, our school community came together to mark R U OK? Day, a day that reminds us to check in regularly with those around us and start meaningful conversations.
On Wednesday, during Sisters, each group created pages for a Gratitude Book unique to their Sister Group. The girls explored what gratitude means to them and shared what they are thankful for in their lives. These reflections were heartfelt, reminding us that gratitude is a powerful tool, especially during busy or stressful times.
We also reminded students that everyone experiences challenges differently, and that is okay. We don’t all feel or respond the same way, which is part of what makes us so unique. What matters is recognising our own feelings and respecting those of others. If students notice that a friend, family member, or loved one seems to be struggling, one easy thing they can do is ask: “Are you OK?”
On Thursday, the Year 11 students along with the Wellbeing Club hosted a vibrant lunchtime event filled with connection and creativity. Activities included colouring in, face painting, bracelet-making, and games, all designed to create safe spaces for conversation and fun. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect across year levels and support one another. Money raised from our crazy sock day and selling merchandise will be donated to the R U OK? cause…a whopping $660!
As we wrap up R U OK? Day, we encourage families to continue these conversations at home. A simple check-in can make a world of difference: https://www.ruok.org.au/ . The four steps to starting a conversation are:
Ask – Are you OK?
Listen – Without judgement
Encourage action – Help them find support
Check in – Follow up later
