Respect ROCKS - Term 2 Kindness and Respect activity!

As mentioned in previous communications with our wider Girls Grammar community, this year we are focusing on the theme of ‘Kindness and Respect’. Each term we are introducing an engaging activity, which the students from Prep to Year 12 can participate to cultivate kindness and respect in our school community. We were blown away with your engagement in the Term 1 activity of the Grow Kindness Challenge, with over 300 nominations of acts of kindness in the school, which demonstrates our continued commitment to improving kindness in our school.

The Term 2 activity is called ‘Respect ROCKS’. Respect ROCKS is an initiative where students, staff and the wider school community are asked to paint and decorate a rock in your unique way. On the rock you are asked to include a word, or multiple words, which in your opinion describes the qualities and characteristics of respect. Once the rock is a finished masterpiece, add it to our growing rock snake, affectionately named ‘Rocky’!

So why are we doing this? To raise awareness and bring a focus of respect in our school community. Respect ROCKS is not just about decorating rocks, it is about all of us getting involved and building something much deeper within our school community to cultivate respect. As you and your daughters paint and decorate these rocks and add them to our collection, remember the impact that each one has. Together, our rocks form a visual representation of the respect and kindness that we are building within our school.

Rocky is going to be positioned in the garden bed across from the Reception entrance. Students will receive reminders via email and Daily Notices, and there will be opportunities throughout the term to paint and decorate a rock at school.

Important information and guidelines:

  • The completed rocks are not to be touched or moved.

  • Goal – to grow Rocky to a minimum of five (5) metres.

  • There is no limit on the number of rocks painted, decorated, and contributed.

  • Use a rock from home, or use a rock provided by school (more information will be given to the students about this).

  • The rocks shouldn’t be larger than your hand.

  • You can start painting and decorating straight away.

  • Progress and goal check – Week 7 general assembly.

  • Winners announced – Week 10 general assembly.

  • Get creative and get involved!

This initiative won’t work without your contribution; we require the entire school community to contribute, to spread the word of Rocky and to encourage participation. I can’t wait to see what we achieve this term with our Respect ROCKS initiative – let’s make Rocky as colourful and as long as possible.
