ROCK SOLID FUTURES: Inspiring Girls in STEM and Trades

ree

Recently, our Year 10 students had the incredible opportunity to participate in the QMEA Girls in STEM/Trades Day – Rock Solid Futures, an event designed to empower young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and trades.

The day featured engaging talks from female industry representatives, who shared their journeys and insights into fields such as engineering and environmental science. These inspiring stories highlighted the diverse pathways available and the impact women are making in traditionally male-dominated industries.

Students also enjoyed hands-on activities that brought STEM and trade skills to life, including:

  • Virtual welding simulations for a taste of precision and safety in metalwork.

  • Electrical circuit challenges to spark curiosity about energy and design.

  • Mechanical aptitude tasks that tested problem-solving and practical thinking.

Looking ahead, future QMEA events in 2026 promise even more exciting opportunities for our students to connect with industry leaders, develop practical skills, and explore pathways into STEM and trade careers. These experiences are invaluable in shaping confident, capable young women ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow.

A heartfelt thank you to the QMEA facilitators and all the industry representatives for generously sharing their time, expertise, and encouragement. Your support makes a real difference in inspiring the next generation.
