Size Doesn’t Define Significance — Our Community Does

This past fortnight has been a beautiful reminder of what makes Girls Grammar so special — our sense of connection, our generosity of spirit, and the way we come together to support, celebrate, and uplift one another.
Last Wednesday, 16 of our brave students and staff took part in the 2025 Ponytail Chop, raising an incredible $19,452 for cancer research and support services. For a school of just 400 students, this achievement is nothing short of remarkable. But more than the number, it’s the heart behind it that matters most.
Every ponytail snipped was a symbol of courage and compassion. Our Girls Grammar community rallied, with families, friends, staff and members of the community cheering on, donating generously, with some individual donations even up to (or over) $500! A special thank you to the wonderful team from East St Barber Shop, who volunteered their time and skills to rescue a few from some very creative DIY haircut attempts!
This year’s Ponytail Project, alongside Crazy Hair Day and last Friday’s annual Pink Gate Day Challenge, truly embodies our school’s mission:
To foster a connected community that develops clever and confident young women.
At Girls Grammar, we live this mission every day - in our classrooms, on the sporting field, in the playground, on the stage, and in the quiet moments of encouragement and care in every day interactions. But over the past few weeks, it’s been on full display. The generosity, courage, and joy we’ve witnessed are a testament to the strength of our community.
This week also marked a special milestone for our youngest future students — our 2026 Preps who joined us for their first transition visit. It was a joy to see them engaging in activities, interacting with one another and our staff, and beginning their journey into 'big school.' I’m sure there are a few eager girls who already believe they’re ready to come back every day! We look forward to welcoming them, and all our new students on Wednesday 26 November for our whole school transition day.
At the other end of the schooling journey, our Year 12 students have been dedicating themselves to preparing for their external exams. This final step in their formal education is both exciting and emotional, and I want to take a moment to wish each of them the very best. You’ve worked hard, and I know you’ll do yourselves and our school proud.
From our youngest learners to our graduating seniors, and everyone in between, this recent fortnight has been a celebration of what it means to belong to Girls Grammar. We are a small school, yes but we are rich in spirit, strong in connection, and mighty in impact.
Thank you to every student, staff member, parent, caregiver, and friend who continues to make our school such a special place. I look forward to the upcoming end-of-year events, where this community spirit will continue to shine brightly.
