North Queensland Schools Regatta
Over the weekend Calli and Dale travelled to Townsville to compete in the North Queensland Schools Regatta held by Rowing Qld. The girls had a successful weekend away gaining some fantastic results.
After placing first in their heat of the Year 10 Double Skull, they did a great job at backing up their performance, going 30 seconds faster over the 1500m race placing first in the final. They were quite dominant, winning by more than a boat length.
Calli then competed in the 2000m Year 11 Single Skull event where she placed 2nd in her heat. Calli improved on her time by seven seconds to place third in the final. Another great achievement while racing up an age division.
In the combined schools Year 10 Coxed Quad Skull event, Calli and Dale combined with two Emmaus rowers and the cox from TCC to place 4th.
Now Calli had the chance to race in the Year 10 Single Skull, which is her age group. Calli placed third in her heat over the 1500m race and then went 15 seconds faster in the final to place third overall. This was a great achievement as she beat one of the rowers that placed ahead of her in the heat.
As a result of her fantastic rowing season to date, Calli has also been selected to compete in the Capricornia U17 Girls Quad team which will race at the Qld Schools Championship Regatta being held in Bundaberg between 16 – 20 September.
Our Girls Grammar rowing team is now looking ahead to 3 September where they will compete in the last local regatta for the year in the Rockhampton Secondary Schools Championships.
For girls interested in rowing for 2023, there will be a learn to row program being run through Term 4. If you would like to sign up for this program, please email sport@rggs.qld.edu.au to be added to the list. Once we have an idea of interest levels, costs and further details will be provided to parents.

Club Netball Finals
Congratulations to the Saturn netball team for finishing 2nd at the end of the regular season in the Junior C1 competition. We were unlucky with Galaxy, Eclipse, Nova, Comets, and Starburst all finishing 5th and narrowly missing out on the finals, while Jupiter finished their season in 7th position. Our Neptune’s minis team will continue to play regular fixtures right to the end of the season and they are having a great time currently placed in 2nd position. Well done to all players on a fabulous season, the improvement in each team and every individual player has been pleasing to see.
Saturn came up against the 1st placed Gracemere Lyn in their semi-final on Tuesday night. Unfortunately, the excitement and awe of the occasion got the better of our young team and Gracemere jumped out to a big lead. With a few nervous moments throughout, we were unable to claw back the lead, going down 35-21. The benefit of finishing the season in the top two means Saturn will get a second chance to make the Grand Final as they play the preliminary final next Tuesday. We wish them all the best and no doubt we will have another great support crew out there cheering the girls on next week.
RDS Cricket Selection
Congratulations to Gabbie Toon on her 10-12yrs RDS Cricket selection. We wish Gabbie the best of luck at the Capricornia Trials on 5 September.
