Student Councils - A Message from Deputy Principal - Students

It has been so wonderful to welcome all the girls back for a new year!

The school has been a hive of activity and I have loved walking through the grounds to see smiling faces and hear greetings of “Hello, how are you Miss?” and “Enjoy your day Mrs Krehlik”. The mutual respect, politeness and confidence are a testament to the community they are a part of and Girls Grammar clearly fosters this to a high degree. The positive energy, excitement and happiness of the staff and students around the school is contagious!

I have had the pleasure of meeting our Prefects and Head Girls over the past week and am excited about the year ahead and what they have planned. Next week we announce our student council leaders for 2021 at our Investiture Ceremonies. These events mark a very special occasion for our girls and their families, and for our year 12’s who will be reciting their pledge as the 2021 school leaders.

This year our school will consist of three student councils;

  • Primary student council consisting of the two elected leaders from years 4, 5 and 6, our primary prefect along with two other prefects and Mrs Goltz overseeing meetings.

  • Secondary student council consisting of two elected leaders from years 7, 8 and 9, secondary prefect and two other prefects with Mrs Dey overseeing meetings.

  • Senior Secondary student council will consist of elected leaders in years 10 and 11 and remaining prefects with myself overseeing meetings.

Regardless of whether a student is selected as a year level representative, so many of our girls possess the qualities of a good leader, drawing on their skills of collaboration, connection, networking, community service, honesty, positivity, responsibility and hard work.

I am already so proud and impressed with the number of girls who have nominated for these positions. For some of them this means stepping outside their comfort zone, trying something new and having the confidence to have a go at something that will benefit themselves and their school community.

Good luck to all girls who have applied for leadership positions as student council representatives!
