Together We Grow: A Journey Through Primary

100 Days of Glowing and Growing in Prep 2025

The 29 July was a very special day in Prep with our 100 days of school celebration. All girls have grown and learned so much throughout the year and it was wonderful to be able to celebrate all their achievements with a morning filled with fun and engaging activities surrounding the number 100. The day commenced with a big count all the way to 100 from the Preps. The girls enjoyed creating self portraits of themselves aged 100. They created bright beaded necklaces with 100 beads and created gumball machines with 100 colourful gumballs. After the students completed the activities, they enjoyed a lovely morning tea in the sunshine with their families who visited for the morning. Every one of our Prep students have shined brightly in their first 100 days of school!

Learning Through Action: Year 1 Sparks Fire Safety Confidence with QFES Visit

ree

Late July, Year 1 enjoyed their second Fire Education visit from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services. The firefighters revisited key safety messages from their previous session - such as the difference between good and bad fires, fire safety practices, and important catchphrases like 'Get down low and go, go, go!', 'Get out and stay out!', and 'Stop, Drop, and Roll.' The students proudly demonstrated their understanding and were rewarded with the exciting opportunity to explore the fire truck and try their hand at spraying the hose! A big thank you to our local firefighter crew for their engaging and educational visits.

Growing Together: Year 2 and Year 7 Celebrate Learning and Friendship

Over the past few weeks, Year 2 students have enjoyed visits from our Year 7 friends. Did you know that when our Year 2 students reach Year 7, their buddies will be graduating in Year 12?

Together, the students wrote a recount following the NAIDOC Assembly and paired up for reading practice. Reading aloud to a supportive audience helps early readers improve accuracy and comprehension and our Year 7 buddies were very impressed with Year 2’s skills.

This collaboration is a wonderful example of our Strategic Plan in action, fostering strong connections across year levels and building a vibrant school community.

Year 3 Hands-On Learning, One Careful Step at a Time

This term, the Year 3 girls have been involved in hands on learning to improve their understanding of following detailed procedures. They started by making fairy bread, carefully following each step to see how important details are when completing a task. They had fun watching Mrs Ruhle try to follow their instructions, but some major flaws led to her ending up covered in butter and sprinkles!

In Maths, they took part in a Survivor style measurement challenge using water and rice, practicing accuracy, teamwork, and measuring skills. These activities have helped the girls develop their ability to read and follow instructions carefully, measure precisely, and work together; all while enjoying the process and learning how important details really are.

Garden Club in Primary

Every Friday at lunchtime, the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School (RGGS) greenhouse comes alive with the enthusiasm of students participating in the Native Garden Club. Thanks to a generous grant from the Rockhampton Regional Council's Community Assistance Program, the club has been actively planting native seedlings to enhance the school's landscape and support local biodiversity. Under the guidance of Mrs Hemson and Mrs Ruhle, students engage in activities such as weeding and planting, fostering a hands-on understanding of environmental stewardship. The initiative aims to provide native bees and insects with local flora to pollinate, contributing to a healthier ecosystem.

As the weather warms, the club looks forward to planting more seedlings and welcomes all interested students to join. Meetings are held every Friday during lunch, providing an opportunity for students to get their hands dirty, be out in the fresh air and contribute to a sustainable future right here at school.

Year 5: Minds in Motion

Our Year 5 students are taking on the Ultimate Maths Challenge! 144 sums to be completed with 100% accuracy, all within a set time limit! It’s a true test of speed, skill, and focus, and our mathematicians are giving it their all.

We’re also implementing our Brainwise program, which includes regular brain breaks to boost focus and creativity. Students have been loving the variety of activities, with the whiteboard challenges quickly becoming a class favourite. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they exercise both their minds and problem-solving skills!

Stitching Stories & Soundwaves: Year 6’s Creative Journey

Our Year 6 students are diving headfirst into creativity and collaboration this term, with two exciting projects that celebrate identity, innovation, and community.

ree

🎧 Podcast Power   Students have launched their very own class podcast, stepping into the dynamic world of digital media. They’re learning how to capture and engage an audience using creative tools like green screens, catchy jingles, and thoughtful storytelling. Each episode showcases what they’ve learned so far, while offering a sneak peek into upcoming topics and projects. It’s a fantastic way for students to build confidence, share their voices, and connect with listeners.

🧵 Health & Harmony: The Classroom Community Quilt   In Health, students are crafting a Classroom Community Quilt - each child designing a unique fabric square that represents their identity, including family, culture, hobbies, and values. Once stitched together, the quilt will become a vibrant tapestry of the diverse individuals in our class, highlighting how our differences make us stronger and more united.

Together, these projects reflect the heart of Year 6: creativity, connection, and celebrating what makes each student shine.
