In Week 5, four Year 9 students - Josie, Lucy, Liara and Jessica - attended the Ylead Altitude Day. The aim of the day is to empower students to have courage to plan their big dreams and discover their untapped potential. Guest speakers included Alana Murray, a local lawyer, who speaks on the radio, runs evening legal clinics and promotes accessible legal services for the community of Rockhampton. Krushnadevsinh Ravalji (Kano) was a really engaging speaker who championed the students to embrace their identity and build acceptance for others. His collaborations include working with UNICEF to address systemic racism and institutional bias.
Below are reflections from the day:

Josie - The most memorable part of the day to me was the fun activities where we got to interact with other local high schools. Throughout the day, we needed to make new ‘besties’ to sit with and as a way to expand our network.
Lucy - I loved that we all got a chance to discuss our opinion and ask lots of questions. We got to do active activities where I got to make friends with students from other schools.
Liara - I liked when we were interacting with other schools from the Central Queensland area. I also liked listening to the two guest speakers informing us about lots of different things.
Jess - My favourite parts of the day were interacting with the other schools. We participated in games that help us become more confident when interacting with a new person. I also loved listening to the two presenters who were so enthusiastic and helping us to have an entertaining and exciting day.
