Exploring Culture, History, and Justice: A Humanities Showcase

This term, Humanities has been a vibrant journey through time, culture, and civic engagement across all year levels!

Year 7 students delved into the Deep Time History of Australia, exploring the rich and ancient heritage of our land. A highlight was their excursion to the Dreamtime Cultural Centre, where they experienced Indigenous culture firsthand through storytelling, art, and interactive exhibits. This immersive experience deepened their understanding of Australia’s First Nations peoples and their enduring connection to Country.

Year 8 took a bold leap into the world of the Vikings, investigating Norse mythology, daily life, and legendary voyages. Students showcased their learning through entertaining multimodal presentations, creatively bringing Viking culture to life with costumes, props, and digital storytelling. Their enthusiasm and innovation made for a memorable unit!

Year 9 focused on the formation of modern Australia, studying how our nation came together through federation. Through engaging discussions and activities, students explored the social, political, and economic factors that shaped Australia’s identity.

Year 10 Ancient History students got hands-on with the wonders of Ancient Egypt. Using kinetic sand, they reconstructed architectural marvels from the Old Kingdom, and even turned each other into mummies in a fun and educational exploration of burial practices and beliefs. These tactile experiences helped bring ancient civilizations to life in the classroom.

Meanwhile, our Senior Legal Studies students had the unique opportunity to visit the Rockhampton Law Courts. This excursion provided real-world insight into the Australian legal system and complemented their classroom studies on legal processes and institutions. Observing live proceedings and engaging with legal professionals offered invaluable context and inspiration.

From ancient pyramids to modern courtrooms, Term 2 in Humanities has been packed with discovery, creativity, and critical thinking. We’re proud of our students’ curiosity and commitment to learning, and we look forward to more exciting adventures next term!
