Mother's Day - To celebrate the special women in our students' lives - mums, grandmas, aunties, and more - the Primary School was filled with love and creativity last week. Each classroom marked the occasion with thoughtful activities. Our Prep students made heartfelt cards, completed sweet questionnaires about their mums, and wrapped photo frames as cherished keepsakes. Year 6 students created a beautiful display titled 'A Garden of Love Grown by Mum,' with each flower symbolising a family member and their birth month flower. Meanwhile, Year 5 students had a blast wrapping their Mother’s Day gifts and sharing laughs as they posed for photos. It was a joyful celebration of the incredible women who do so much every day.
The Rockhampton Girls Grammar School Native Garden Club is flourishing thanks to a generous environmental and sustainability grant of nearly $2,000 from the Rockhampton Regional Council's Community Assistance Program . This funding has enabled the club to purchase native seeds and essential gardening supplies, fostering a hands-on learning environment for students. A highlight of the project is the installation of two native Australian stingless bee hives, which will enhance biodiversity on campus and offer students unique insights into pollination, life cycles, and the needs of living organisms. The Garden Club welcomes students and parents to join its weekly sessions every Friday at lunchtime in the CAB Greenhouse. For more information, please contact Vanessa Hemson. Maths Team Challenge – On Thursday 8 May, 10 students from our Year 4/5/6 Maths Extension class competed at the QAMT Year 6 Maths Team Challenge. Despite some initial nerves, the girls put their best foot forward displaying confidence in maths and connection within their teams. The girls completed individual, relay, teams and estimation events, and had so much fun! With over 10 schools competing, our girls had the opportunity to socialise and work on maths with students from other schools, certainly becoming a highlight of the day.

Interschool sport – Students in Years 5 and 6 kicked off their Interschool sports competition on Friday, taking to the field and court for hockey and netball. This exciting event provides a fantastic opportunity for students to try new sports, develop teamwork skills, and enjoy some healthy competition with classmates and peers from other schools. This year, we are proud to have four netball teams and two hockey teams representing our school. We wish all teams the best of luck and look forward to cheering them on throughout the season!

Year 5 have also been learning about persuasive techniques. Students talked about how being genuine and truly believing in what you say can help make your argument stronger. To practise, they completed a fun activity where they wrote about why they love RGGS, using persuasive words and supporting evidence to back up their ideas.
Prep Books & Rotary - We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Rotary Club of Rockhampton and Ken Murphy, for their generous donation of picture books to our Prep students. Thirteen excited young learners each received a beautifully illustrated book, sparking joy and encouraging a love of reading from an early age. This thoughtful contribution supports our literacy goals and helps foster a lifelong appreciation for books. We are truly grateful for the Rotary Club’s continued support of our school community and this annual initiative.
Students from Prep to Year 6 recently participated in the 25th annual National Simultaneous Storytime, joining 2,204,658 children across the country in listening to The Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel. The story was brought to life as students enjoyed hearing the author read the text aloud. Engaging in related activities, students deepened their connection to the story while sharing a special moment with peers nationwide. Events like this foster a love of reading and highlight the joy of shared literary experiences.
🐣 EGG-citing News from Year 3! 🐣 Year 3 are egg-static and full of excitement with six new chicks hatching in their classroom as part of their Science unit. Students are learning about life cycles and how to care for living things. The girls have loved watching the chicks grow each day.
