Rockhampton Girls Grammar School (RGGS) has welcomed three new Indigenous support staff members during Term 2.
Bindoo Lukhoo and Emily Grimes have hit the ground running in their roles of Indigenous Education Officers and Shania Conlon returns to the position of Indigenous Liaison Officer.
Bindoo and Emily’s working days consist of assisting remote and very remote First Nation students in various capacities. During the school day they are familiar faces popping into classes to assist with classroom activities and ensuring students have an adequate understanding of group discussions. These busy ladies are also available after school, offering tutoring assistance to students, ensuring that assessment deadlines are adhered to.
The Indigenous Education Officers have a purpose to promote and contribute to academic success for remote and very remote Indigenous students enrolled at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. Bindoo and Emily have already created strong connections with the students fostering culturally safe and inclusive learning approaches.
Meet Bindoo and Emily on a more personal level here.
Shania Conlon returns to the position of Indigenous Liaison Officer. Shania previously held the role during 2023 before moving on to gain further experience in the Indigenous Support space with Rockhampton Girls Grammar School scholarship partner, Cape York Leaders Program. Shania has recently returned with intentions to strengthen the Indigenous Program at our school and further assist First Nations students during their transitions to boarding school.
NAIDOC Week is fast approaching, and our Indigenous Liaison Officer is busy planning our school’s celebrations. Dates to note include the RGGS NAIDOC Assembly scheduled for Wednesday 23 July. Please pin this event in your calendars, all families are invited to celebrate NAIDOC Week.
