When parents send their daughters to boarding school they do it for a number of reasons. For some, their geographical location makes it necessary. For others it is the opportunities, experiences and structure that it offers. When I speak with girls and their families at interviews they nearly always mention that it is the structured prep time that they are seeking. At Girls Grammar the girls are offered a wide variety of activities and experiences which enrich their lives and builds confidence. We also have structure for the girls to help them manage their academic load. This study time is taken seriously with girls expected to be quiet, not moving around, and working. Disruptions such as sport do take girls away from their studies so this is why we discourage girls from going out socially during study time.
Currently we have our Year 12 girls preparing for their external exams and we expect the girls that live with them to respect their peace. We keep the girls busy offering activities on the weekends. It is important that the girls have down time as well. Recently we attended the River Festival and enjoyed a night of rides, food vans and fireworks. We are looking forward to a rugby 7’s carnival, a couple of hours at Timezone and a trip to the beach this weekend as well our usual shopping outing.
Striking a balance between work and play is an important life skill. We encourage all of our boarders to get involved in the activities on offer especially as the year comes to an end.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend and some steady rain for those who need it.
